Ya know, to be completely honest, I never actually thought about the end of the world. Like, I guess I knew it was gonna happen at one point or another.....but........

Car Radio- "...again, citizens of the eastern coast of the United States, I cannot stress enough the importance of staying indoors. Remain calm, stay indoors, and continue to listen to broadcast for further instructions..." (fades out)

"That was President Harrison Carter addressing the current situation escalating from the east coast of the United States...." (fades out)

We had been on the road for almost 2 hours headed to Rocky Mount where we would link up with our dad. There was a blue-ish and purple tint with shades of orange in the sky as the sun nearly disappears ahead of us. The moon would even peek out, then disappear in between clouds. The highway road we were taking was pretty much desolate, with an occasional car or two going the opposite direction.

"This acceleration pad is acting a lil janky. Wtf, there's so much wrong with this truck...it's probably nothing..."

During our journey, I called and left voicemails for Mom and Dad more times than I can count. With my phone on 60%, I don't attempt too many more times.

"Last try...at least until I reach Dad's place ." I think to myself.

With one hand on the steering wheel, the other with my phone to my ear,

"Leave a message after the beep."

(Beeep)

"Mom....mom please pick up the phone." I could barely manage to get out.

"Josh, Jake, and I are about 30 minutes from Dad's. Where are you, mom?" *sniffle* "We're so worried about you. Especially Jacob, haha. Ya know, with him being a 'momma's boy' and all, hahaa..."

"I am NOT a momma's boy." he quietly retorts.

"At any rate rate, please call me back whenever you get this messages mom. Please. As soon as possible."

I hang up the phone and place it back in the middle compartment.

"We'll find her." Josh reassures, still staring out the window.

I glance slightly his way, and then focus back on the road in front of me.

"...yeah. Yeah, of course we are." I say.

Although the optimistic part of me wanted to believe so, the realistic side of me thought the total opposite.

I couldn't voice that aloud of course-

(POOOWW!)

"OH MY G- "

"AAAAAGGHHH!"

"WHAT THE FU- "

Suddenly, I lose control of the truck, and I'm swerving in and out of lanes. The three of us are jolted and thrusted around in the heavy vehicle, screaming like banshees at the top of our lungs. I finally manage to get in control and slam on the brakes near the side of the highway to come to a complete stop.
