He's Not Me

Chapter One

The coffee shop was almost empty as I sat down at the booth. It was almost 11 p.m. The waitress came over and I ordered a coffee for myself, and for Michael. I knew exactly how he liked his coffees. White with 3 sugars.

I beamed at the thought of seeing him again. It had been 6 months since he had been back in Australia, and I had missed him like crazy.

Just as the coffee arrived, I felt a pair of warm hands cover my eyes.

"Guess who?" I frowned. This wasn't Michaels voice. Ashton slid into the seat across from me, pulling the coffee towards him.

"Uh, hey Ash." I said.

"Hey Katie. How've you been?" He smiled at him, showing off his dimples.

"I've been good, and you?"

"Oh yeah, I've been great." It was silent for a few seconds as he took a sip of his drink.

"Sorry about the drink, I ordered for Mike. By the way, where is he?" I asked. Ashton frowned as he put his drink down.

"Well, he was ready to leave, and then he came running into my hotel room, begging me to go in his place. He said he couldn't face you. What happened between you two before we left anyway?" I sighed in disappointment. Of course he didn't come. He was running away from his problems like usual.

"We had a fight before you guys left. We said some really hurtful things, that I swear I never meant to say. He left after telling me were finished. A couple of days ago he asked me to meet him here. And now here I am. Look, Ash, I don't want to waste your time so I'll just leave. It was great seeing you." I grabbed my bag and got up.

"Wait! Why don't we do something fun tonight, like go for a drink? I'm not Michael, but I'll keep you company." He said.

"Thanks Ash, but you don't have to."

"I know I don't have to, I want to. You obviously need a distraction, so let's go get drunk!" I laughed at him and nodded.

"Fine. But you're paying for my drinks." I agreed. He smiled and linked his arm through mine.

"Lead the way, Brisbane girl. Show me where all the good clubs are!"
