The next day after school when I was at home in my room trying to finish my Algebra homework I heard a knock on my bedroom door. I was so absorbed in my math that I didn't even think when I said whoever it was could come in. A strange man I had never seen before opened my bedroom door and walked in, closing the door behind him. He was tall, with a pale tan and jet black hair. His eyes were also black, like the sky at night without any stars. There was something about him though, something... different. He sat down on the end of my bed, "Hey there baby girl. Wow, you sure are grown up now." he said with a faint chuckle. I stared at him. "D-dad?..." I said quietly. "You guessed it." he said, opening his arms wide. My eyes started to fill with tears. I got up and ran up to my dad, hugging him so hard he was probably going to have a bruise later. I had always fantasized about what I would do if I ever met my real dad, but every fantasy was gone out the window now. I could only think about how he was here. My real dad was really here. My dad pried me off of him and held me at arm's length. "What do you say we hang out for awhile, Karoline?" I wiped my eyes and smiled, "It sounds perfect, Dad."
We had went out for dinner, and then ice cream afterwards. He had surprised me with some really nice sketching pencils and paper. How he knew that I loved to sketch and draw is beyond me. But either way we had an awesome blast. There was a few times that he acted very strange, like he had something on his mind that he needed to tell me, but they were gone as soon as they appeared. We had agreed that tomorrow, after I was done with school, we would hang out in his hotel room that he was renting while he was staying here, and we would get to know each other a bit more and catch each other up on what was going on and what had happened in our lives. I set my drawing pencils and paper on my desk and climbed in bed smiling. The last thought I had, before I drifted off into the endless oblivion of sleep, was something my dad had said before he left. '"By the way, you don't mind if I bring someone with me when I come to pick you up, do you?"' 'I wonder who his guest will be.' I thought as I fell asleep for the night.
I had just stepped off the bus after arriving at school when Chloe ran up to me with Christian not far behind. "Kay!" she shouted, "Hey I heard your dad came to visit, you okay?" I smiled at her, "I'm great actually. After school he is going to pick me up so we can hang out some. He told me he was bringing a guest too." Christian looked at me and smiled gently, "I'm glad you and your dad are getting along." He said. "Me too." I said.
The rest of the school day seemed to fly by without my knowing. Because before I knew it I was on the sidewalk in front of the school waiting to be picked up. Pretty soon I saw a black car pull up. The window rolled down, "Hi there baby girl. Need a ride?" My dad smiled at me. I laughed, "Hi dad, I missed you." The passenger's side door opened and a boy of 15 or 16 stepped out. "After you." he said with a grin. The boy had wavy black hair and dark eyes. He must be the guest my dad was talking about. I thought as I climbed into the car. The boy climbed in after me shutting the door. "Hey, I'm Nick, nice to meet you." He put out his hand. "I'm Karoline, but everyone calls me Kay." I replied shaking his hand. "So, anything you want to do Karoline? Or should I just surprise you?" My dad asked looking at me. "Surprise me." I said.
We drove for awhile in silence then Nick spoke up, "We're here." he said. He climbed out and I followed him. "Hey, Nick. Stay here with Kay for a moment while I set up." My dad said. Set up? I thought. I wonder what he means by that? "Sure thing Mr.D." Nick said flashing my dad a thumbs up. Dad grabbed something out of the trunk of the car and walked into the woods. We were at a park-like sort of place surrounded by woods. It was quiet, a peaceful kind of quiet though. My dad came back wearing a giant smile. "Ready?" he asked. I laughed, "I was born ready!" Dad laughed and took my hand, "I like your spirit." He said. "You coming Nick?" Nick stepped up and took my other hand, he looked at me and said "I wouldn't miss it for the world." I'm not sure why but for some reason when he said that fear gripped me. I felt a presence in the back of my mind suddenly, Are you okay?! And the voice was back. I-I'm fine. It's nothing, leave me alone. I prayed that the voice would listen for once and let me be. It did, but I still felt it's presence in my head for the rest of the evening. Turns out, my dad had planned a picnic. It was delicious! We had everything you would normally have at a picnic and a few other things too. I also found out that apparently Nick is one of my dad's friend's son and was staying with my dad for awhile. He would be enrolling in my school, so I decided to let him join Christian, Chloe, and I and we could show him around sometime.
After we had finished our picnic dad drove me home. As I was heading up the front porch steps Nick called out to me, "Hey! Kay! See you at school tomorrow, okay?" I turned around and smiled, "Yeah, I can't wait. I'll see you then!" I shouted and he flashed me a grin worthy of a model as they pulled out of my driveway and left. I smiled to myself and went into the house. Tomorrow will be interesting. I thought to myself as I opened the door of my bedroom. I wonder if they have any more surprises in store. I laughed to myself as I thought this.
