It was Monday morning and the beginning of a new school year.  Katie was in the car with her father, on the way to her new school.  This was her first year in high school.  The city of Lion was the capital of Eye and was the home of the most advanced magic school, Lion, named after the city.

This was where Katie, herself, was headed.  "Hey, Papa.  What was it like at Lion?"

"Well, for me, it was very fun.  I made many friends and became a magnificent Fire Magic major.  I even got to join the magic council.  I bet you'll become as wonderful of a Shadow Magic major as your mother.  If only she could see you now," he finished.

"I'm gonna' try to make a friend as soon as I can," Katie exclaimed while putting her navy color-dyed hair into a pony-tail.  Her father drove the car for a few more minutes until they arrived in front of the school.

"Bye, Katie," he said before she got out of the car.  "Good luck."

"Thanks, papa.  I'll do my best," Katie hugged her father and exited the car.  Lion wasn't open yet so there were still people outside the building.  She walk forwards, wondering who she should talk to first.  Hmm . . . There.

She spotted a boy wearing a black, leather jacket, navy pants, a red shirt, and a band around his forehead, under his jet black hair.  Katie walked up next to him.

"Hi, I'm Katie.  This is my first year at Lion.  You?" she asked kindly.

They boy looked to his side, keeping his hands in his pockets, "Ashurie, first year."

"Oh, I like your name," Katie replied.  "What's your major magic class?"

       He paused, "Shadow."

"Me, too," Ashurie looked back at the school.  "Your second class woudn't happen to be Shadow magic, would it?"

He slightly nodded.  "I'm surprised you haven't realized who I am, yet.  I'm the son of The Evil Shadow, popularly known on the news as a "celebrity".  Everyone who's met me has always gone in the other direction just because of who my father is."

       "Well, I guess you can say . . . I don't care who a person's parents were.  I only care about a person's personality," she said happily.

Suddenly, the school bell rang and the doors to the school opened.  Ashurie headed for his own homeroom while Katie went to hers.  Hmm, that boy, Ashurie, must not talk much.  He seemed to be lonely.  I wounder what side magics he takes.  Wait, he could be my first friend at Lion! She squealed inside like a little girl.

The end of first class bell had just rang and Katie headed for her next class, Shadow Magic.  Ooo, I'll try and get a seat near Ashurie.  When she walked in there were only about fourteen people in the Shadow Magic major class.  Mostly everyone was in the front desks but one boy stood out.

It was Ashurie.  Katie took a seat next to him in the back.  Multiple other students looked behind at her, surprised that she sat down next to the son of Shadow.

       "Hey, Ashurie," Katie greeted.

       "Hey," Ashurie replied.

"When's that damn teacher gonna' get here?  He should've been here by now," a student upfront exclaimed.

"Right Here!" the teacher retorted.  He walked into the classroom while smacking the boy across the head.  "I'm Professor Dakes, and I don't really like it when students call me a damn teacher, as you can see.  I'm the teacher for Shadow Magic.  This is the Shadow Magic majors class, so if you don't belong here, get out."  No one moved so Professor Dakes continued.  "Now, we have a very special student in this class.  He already has 75% of his Shadow Magic majors done.  Ashurie, if you don't mind, would you show the class a demonstration?"
