Chapter 11

Skye:

Ward and I go silent for a few minutes just holding onto each other more and more with every breath we take. I couldn't let him die for me but there was nothing I could to stop him, I have no idea what was going to happen tonight and I'm scared for it.

I tighten my hug on Ward when I start thinking about the mission, I don't want to let him go and go into the unknown without being able to hold onto him like this.

"Skye." Ward says softly. "It's going to be okay."

"You don't know that!" I tell him and start to pull away. "You can't know what awaits us tonight."

"No." He says softly. "But I know you will be okay because I'll be there protecting you and I won't leave your side."

"I know." I whisper quietly. "It's just scary, you know?"

"Yes I know." He says softly. "I know it's scary but you have to trust me that I would let anything happen."

"Yes I do trust you but I'm also scared for you." I tell him. "Because if something does happen you'll get yourself killed so I don't get hurt and that terrifies me more then dying."

I pull away from him a couple inches, he puts his hands on my face and kisses my forehead softly.

"Skye." He whispers with his lips still on my forehead. "All that matters to me is you living."

"And you think I'll be okay if you die?" I ask and my eyes fill with tears at the idea of him dying. "Because I definitely won't be and if you die for me I'll be even worse."

"I know." He whispers softly.

"Can I tell you something?" I ask him.

"Of course, what's up?" He answers.

"If you die I will have no reason at shield." I admit to him. "You were what made me stay, I got this feeling from you like this was where I needed to be and it was where I needed to be."

"Thank you but you'll find someone else to keep you there." He says. "I have an idea that might make you feel better."

"Ice cream, going home, a nap?" I ask him hopeful for any of them.

"Some sleep." He tells me softly. "I think you'd feel allot better if you got some sleep."

"Yeah I'm starting to think so too." I say and walk over to the bed.

I crawl under the covers of the bed and get cuddled in, Ward sits on the bed next to me and smiles.

"What?" I asks wondering why he was smiling.

"Nothing, mind if I sleep with you?" He asks. "I mean sleep next to you or I could sleep of the floor."

"No." I say and laugh. "You can sleep on the bed."

He smiles and goes under the covers next to me but we stay about a foot away from each over. I lay my head on the pillow and pull the blanket up to my chin.

"Good night Skye,  sweet dreams." Ward whispers and I drift off to sleep.......
