Fish

I plop another fish into the basket and take it up to the food storage area in the central cave, licking my lips. My battle training is done for today, (thank Suicune), and now I'm on fishing duty. It's one chore I don't really mind, and it's essential to the tribe. Eevees who are old enough take turns gathering food for the tribe. Today, Brook and I are doing it, and we're almost done. We only have to fill the large, carved out stone area in the storage cave, because we shouldn't gather too much and let it rot. Packed ice in the winter and cold water in the summer surround the bowl and keep the food cool.

It's been three days since my encounter on the BlitzClan border. I'm sure it must have been an Eevee from BlitzClan that I saw, and I can't help but wonder if it was that Eevee's first time to the border as well. I shove the thought away.

Down at the river, I fill one last basket and dump the fish into the bowl in the cave. I take one for myself to have now, which is the customary reward. Gnawing on my prize, I look around for Brook. Nothing. I open my mouth to call her and then –

"Attack!" She pounces on me from above. I try to shake her off and then roll on the ground. She squirms away, giggling. I chase after her in mock revenge.

I find her at the river, peering intently into the water. I smile wickedly. I pounce forward from behind, knocking her into the water. She lets out a yelp of surprise and falls in with a splash. Climbing out, she shakes the water out of her fur, drenching me in the process.

"Now we're even," I say, laughing. We step into the river and poke around with our paws in the shallows, looking for colorful, polished river stones. Our sleeping caves are already decorated with the ones we have collected over our lifetimes.

"Brook! Come on! It's time for training!" Brook rolls her eyes. Being naturally friendly, she hates battle training, even though Cirrus can't make her fight someone she hates because she doesn't hate anyone. Ugh. Pacifists.

We've been poking around in the river for an hour now, and when Brook gets out, her paws are coated in ice.

"Ouch! How do you stand that?!" She yelps, licking her paws to get rid of the ice.

I shrug. I don't know why, but the ice never bothers me.

"BROOK! I'm not going to call you again!" Cirrus shouts. Brook makes a face at me.

"I hope he gets a Slugma up his nose," she mutters before running off.  I watch her go for a minute, and then get out of the river. I glance down at my paws, and jump with surprise to see that they are covered in ice. I hadn't even felt it...

I'm at a loss for how to entertain myself. I finished my training hours ago, and I don't have my friend to play with. There are plenty of other Eevees in the Clan, but I've never really gotten along with them like I do with Brook.

Realizing that I'm going to face a very boring afternoon if I don't think of something, I decide to visit the border again, if only because it makes me happy to live in the privileged territory of AquaClan.
