CHAPTER ONE

Disclaimer: I do not own Prince of Tennis nor any of its characters. I only own the plot and my original characters.

The sun was out, its heat oppressive, and the humidity stifling. The move was sudden, but the plane ride was not. It had been a 10-hour long flight and Miyu felt herself ready to burst at the seams. Her foot, impatiently tapping along the concrete, gave away her mood as she and her brother, Toya, waited at baggage claim. Toya craned his head, hoping to catch a glimpse of their suitcases. His and Miyu's parents were arranging the details for the car to take them to their house.

Not for the first time Miyu wondered what their new home would be like.

"New?" Miyu thought. No, that's not right. They had lived here before, many years ago. Or at least, before Miyu's grandfather had gotten ill. When they received the news he wasn't doing so well, the family packed up and moved to the US to be with him. That was back when Miyu was 3 and Toya 7.

Her grandfather was the whole reason Miyu played tennis in the first place. The reason she trained morning and night, in hopes of one day surpassing him. You would maybe think that since Miyu's grandpa was a former pro he would have wanted his own kids to play. But that couldn't be further from the truth. He wanted his family to pursue their own passions, whatever they may be. As such, it was why Miyu was the only other tennis player in the family.

"Ne. What do you think it's going to be like? Living here I mean", Miyu asked as she looked down at her worn sneakers.

Toya looked down at her, "Technically we lived here before". Miyu's head tilted up and gave the look. The look that screamed, "Are you kidding me right now? No, DUH but that was AGES AGO".

"Yea alright, I know what you mean. I'm not sure, to be honest. It's been a long time and we don't know anyone here. But hey, it's you and me. We'll be fine, right?"

Miyu put her hand to her eyes, covering her face from the glaring sun, "Yea, I s'pose so".

The conveyor belt turned on (finally) and suitcases from their flight started making their way through baggage claim.

Toya stood up straighter, "Ah! There they are. Hurry, let's grab them fast!" The siblings grabbed the family's suitcases as quick as they could. The sooner this was over, the sooner they could get to the house.

Miyu tugged on her backpack's shoulder strap. "Well, here we go". And off the Kinomoto family went. To a house she hasn't seen nor lived in for 9 years.

The car ride had been unbearable. After such a long flight, Miyu had to fight to keep herself from fidgeting the entire car ride to the house. She had so much pent up energy, she felt she could run for miles and miles and never slow down.

The house was nice, if unfamiliar. She guessed (hoped) that would change when she and her family got settled in. Her bedroom was her first destination, the sooner she could unpack and settle in, the sooner she could play tennis.

A light knocking on her door frame alerted her to someone's presence.

"Hello, dove. How's the unpacking?" Her mom's kind eyes scanned the room. She walked to the closet and began helping Miyu put away her clothes.

"It's going. Not much more to do!" Miyu thought to herself, "That's the one nice thing about this. They already had all their original furniture set up so really it was cleaning and unpacking things like clothes and trinkets.

Miyu's mom finished hanging a sweater and said, "I know this is a lot to take in. But I'm excited for us. It'll be good for the family, trust me." She leaned down to hug her daughter, "It's been a very long day. Go to sleep soon and we can finish the rest of house in the morning".

It wasn't long until Miyu found herself cocooned in a large blanket, barely awake in her bed. Her last thought until she drifted into sleep, "I can't wait to play tennis".
