When you awoke, you jolted.
You banged your head on the door, making a loud thump. You groaned, putting your hands where you hit your skull and sighed. Twice in a day.
The door opened and you fell on your back, hitting your head again.
Three times.
"what're you doing?" G asked from above you, his white pinpricks scanning you over. You looked around the room, the guitar was nowhere to be seen. His closet was opened by a sliver so you guessed he threw it in there.
You stayed on the floor, staring up at G. His eyes reminded you of your dream, of the white heart you saw that was being surrounded by black. "Do you have a heart?" You asked. He snorted.
"no, doll." He shook his head. "do you see any organs in me?"
"Not a real heart," You rolled your eyes. You thought about what you saw. How could you put it into words? "One... that floats. It's upside down, it glows. It... radiates."
G looked at you with his jaw slack. Shaking his head, he offered you a skeletal hand. You accepted it, pulling yourself off the ground slowly before fixing your hair. "if i didn't know any better, i'd think you were asking me if i had a SOUL?"
"Is that what they're called?" You laughed numbly. "Could you tell me about them?"
"what's with the sudden curiosity?" memories of the voice in your dream flashed in your head. Don't test waters you couldn't swim in? You decided you were a pretty decent swimmer, and you shrugged at G.
"I just feel like it's time to know."
---
You onced over the information your friend told you, adjusting your sitting position on his bed. You were still slightly confused. "So all monster SOUL's are the origin of your magic? And they're just... white?" G nodded. "Why are they upside down and humans aren't?"
"we're two different species. humans are much stronger than monsters, SOUL wise. you could look at it as a reminder how different we are and who has the upperhand in battle."
The information G told you was much appreciated, but it still didn't help your dream make any more sense. If anything, you were baffled more than you were before. You frowned, letting yourself fall on your back. "What do the colors mean? Why can't monsters have them?"
"the color of your SOUL shows who you truly are, deep down inside. it marks you, almost. monsters SOUL's are white because of the LOVE that is us. LOVE is what fuels our SOUL, therefore fuelling us."
"That explains why monsters are so kind," you laughed. You've met some pretty terrible people in your life, but you had yet to find a monster who was bitter without a good reason. Sitting back up, you scooted yourself enough that you were next to G. You put a leg over his lap, getting close so you could rest your head on his shoulder. The skeletons arm wrapped around you, hands carefully raking through your hair not soon after.
"something the matter, doll?" You shook your head.
"Could you sing for me?"
"heh. okay."
You were back to sleep in a matter of seconds.
---
When you slipped back into the nothingness of your mind, things were different.
It looked like you were trapped in a room. The space that seemed to go on forever, white and clean was now suffocatingly small, black walls that looked like bars around you. You reached out to touch, but the contact zapped you.
It hurt, but you did it again. You felt the electricity, the magic try and push your fingers away but you gripped tightly on the bars. Your body shook without your consent.
Everything hurt. Everything stung. Yet you were determined to get past.
Suddenly, your body was shoved back, into another set of bars, making you yelp. Looking up, all around you were hands, holes punctured in the palm. You gasped for air, chest heaving as you eyed them. They all melded together in front of you, and from the bottom of the floor until the shape was two heads taller than you, black goop formed into a person. A crooked smile with a slack eyes and deep scars cut into the sockets. The monster's head tilted at you, before they disappeared into the floor. The goop shot forward, grabbing you by your ankles.
You fell backwards, onto your butt as the person reformed again, inches away from your face. They opened their mouth, screeching in a language you didn't understand. The goop started to clench and squeeze all around you.
You screamed.
---
"___!" G shook you, making you jump awake. Your eyes were wide open as you stared up at the monster who pinned you down. You screamed again, fighting his grip on you.
"Get off of me!" You sobbed, pushing the skeleton off of you. Quickly you scrambled off the bed, and stared down at G. You were shaking. The skeleton reached out a hand for you, getting on his feet. You saw the holes in his hands and cried, turning on your heels to run out of the room. His hands gripped at your wrist, making you fall down and hang from his hold on you. You refused to look at him. "I'm sorry," you tried to wipe the tears and snot running down your face. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"
You winced when G got on his knees beside you, but stayed in place. You didn't want to be here, you didn't want to see him.
"___, please," G released his grip on you. "it was just a dream. i'm not... i'm not going to hurt you, sweetheart."
You didn't know if you believed him, you didn't know if you wanted to. You stayed silent, cradling yourself with your face in your knees.
You should have taken those warnings.
