Chapter Text
"HUMAN!"
You flinched at the loud voice and slam of your door opening. You looked over your shoulder from where you sat on the couch and sighed. "Papyrus, honey, what are you doing here?"
"WE HAVE NOT TALKED FACE TO FACE IN A WHILE, AND IT WAS BOTHERING ME." Papyrus placed himself beside you, his usual bright smile etched into a sad frown. "MY BROTHER TOLD ME THAT YOU HAVE NOT BEEN GETTING OUT OF THE HOUSE AS OF LATE. HE SAID IT WAS BECAUSE YOU LOST YOUR EDITING JOB, HUMAN! WHY DID YOU FAIL TO TELL ME?" Well, that was one of the reasons you weren't leaving the house. It was good to know G wasn't suspicious of you yet, though. Maybe.
"Well, that's true." You placed your hands on Baba who jumped up and rested his head on your lap. "I haven't gotten around to telling you. I'm sorry, Papyrus." You pet his head, softly smiling at the soft fur. Bathing him was a chore, but that's all you did nowadays so it wasn't too bad. It had brilliant results every time you pushed yourself to get him in the bath, he was as soft as a blanket now.
"WELL YOU CAN MAKE IT UP BY TALKING TO ME, HUMAN." Papyrus took your hand. "TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG."
"Nothing is wrong." You were only a little bit surprised by the skeletons sudden action, but you were definitely disappointed someone like him could see through your facade. Papyrus rolled his eye sockets (what).
"PLEASE, HUMAN. MY BROTHER USED TO SAY THE EXACT SAME THING. I KNOW WHEN SOMEONE IS LYING, SO PLEASE TELL ME. I AM GROWN UP AND I CARE ABOUT YOU."
You let out a breath, looking down at Baba. Your hand tightened in his grip. "Well, I.." What would a good lie be? You've never been good at lying, but this was different. You didn't even know yourself what was wrong. How in the hell could you explain that to him? That sounds like a lie all by itself. "Not getting out of the house has been bothering me. I can't seem to get another job and it bothers me."
"ANOTHER JOB?"
"Oh, I work as a waitress." You shrugged, and Papyrus beamed.
"HUMAN, YOU DID NOT TELL ME YOU HAD THE SAME JOB AS I! THAT IS GOOD NEWS! SO WHY ARE YOU UPSET?" You didn't tell him what you were waitressing for though. And you were not about to spill the beans for that.
"The job only needs me every now and then and I'm not really comfortable with it. Basically I would like to quit but I need another job for me to do that. See where I'm going here?" You took your hand away from your friend and placed Baba off of you. He quickly trotted away and into G's empty room. "I already feel horrible about placing most of the bills on G. I just... need a break, you know?"
"LET US TAKE A BREAK THEN! I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WE CAN DO! I WAS ALREADY PLANNING ON GOING TO METTATON'S SHOW TODAY, AND I CAN BRING YOU WITH ME!" Before you could ask who he was talking about, and maybe properly refuse the offer, Papyrus scooped you in his arms and ran to your bedroom. "THIS IS FANTASTIC! YOU GET TO RELAX, BE WITH ME AND MEET MY BOYFRIEND! I COULDN'T THINK OF ANYTHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR FREE TIME!"
You could think of a couple things.

It was only a quick change, painful drive and a blindfold later until Papyrus was leading you to your destination. You could hear loud cheering and suddenly you felt more anxious about what you were wearing. You let Papyrus lead you as your vision was covered by his red scarf, tripping a few times. "Pap, where are you taking me?"
"BACKSTAGE!"
"W..what?"
"OH NO! I SPOILED IT! I SPOILED IT!" Papyrus cried and you stopped in your tracks. Here you were, the one who was on the verge of an attack and blinded by a scarf, about to comfort the wailing skeleton.
