For some time Emma and Regina lived in peace. Henry grew and grew. Regina made sure that she was the best version of herself. But the baggage from her past haunted her. Emma say the toll it took on her wife.
So they made a tradition to go down to California like they were on a run. They would leave Henry with Zelena when they went. But he didn't mind as he got older.
One day as Regina and Emma were saddling the horses to set on their way Emma collapsed to the ground. Her grayed blonde her coming loose from her hat. Regina made quick movements to her wife. Her fingers skimmed her wife's aged face.
"Emma!" She cried searching frantically for what could have happened.
Emma's thin lips pulled into a small smile.
"I love you." She whispered.
"What's going on?" The brunette had tears forming in her eyes.
"You know how I said I was going to the store in town a couple weeks ago?" The former evil queen nodded.
"Well I didn't just go to the store. I paid a visit-to the doc." Her eyes opened and closed slowly. "I got a cancer that can't be treated." Regina shook her head and closed her eyes refusing to believe it.
"No you can't leave me what if I go back to-" Her wife stopped her.
"You won't. We both know that you won't. Look at me." Regina was crying and her vision was semi blurred.
"Why didn't you tell me?" She asked in confusion and heartbreak.
"Because if you knew I wouldn't have done the things I've done for the time in between." The blonde took her hand and swept the other woman's hair behind her ear.
"I could have helped." She whispered in a meek tone.
"No you couldn't have. No one could. Now kiss me." Emma's hand went behind Regina's neck and pulled her still lush lips to her thin pink ones.
It was a kiss that shatter everything they ever went through.

"How will I know when you come back?" A curious blonde asked the brunette who was mounting her steed.
"Oh you'll know." She winked and leaned forward in her saddle.
"Regina please stay." The Swan begged placing a hand on the woman's knee.
"Swan I will always come back."

"Will you marry me?" Regina asked out of the blue as they laid on the ground looking at the stars listening to the creek of the crickets.
"I'd love to." Regina furrowed her brow and turned her head.
"Really?" She asked in disbelief.
"Of course. I knew from the second time you came into my town for a good time that I'd always be with you."

"No don't you dare leave!" Emma shouted. Regina ignored her and kept packing her clothes. "You walk out that door and I swear you'll never see me again." That made the bandit stop.
"I can't be cooped up!" She growled.
"Ya and I can't be married to someone I hardly see!" She shouted back with tears of anger rolling down her face.
"Then why did you agree to marry me?" Regina asked hurt.
"Because I thought I could make you stay. I thought my love would be enough but I guess not get the hell out of my house and never come back!"

"What are you doing her I thought-" Emma was caught off by lips on her own.
Regina stayed for a couple days before leaving in the middle of the night. She left a note and rose.
She always came back for a birthday holiday or special event.

Emma and Regina's love story may never hit the history books or may never be known. But they loved each other more and more each day.
Emma passed away two days later and Regina clung to her body until Zelena made her take her to the undertaker.
The funeral was larger than Regina wanted. The whole town pitched in for the costs and showed up.
Regina didn't speak until everyone was gone.
"My Savior. Is this the fair of all saviors? Death with out a happy ending? Or is a happy ending just a haze that makes us strive for more? Emma you are my everything." Regina laid a rose down on top of the turned soil.
"Mom?" The older woman turned around to see her son Henry, his wife Violet, and their daughter Lia.
"Henry!" The embraced crying.
"She was a good woman." Violet said rubbing Henry's back. Regina pulled away.
"Henry I need to tell you something." He nodded before walking away with me. She told him about being an out law and his mom and her.
"You guys always found a way didn't you?" He asked picking up a small rock.
"That's the thing with love. If two people are meant to be together they find a way."
"Mom told me this quote when I was having a hard time in school. 'Don't judge my story based on the chapter you walked in on.' What do you think she meant?" And for the first time Regina understood. Emma always wrote notes and new chapters in her book when everyone judged it because they hadn't read the entire book.
Emma's love was all she needed back then and that's what scarred her back then.

That's the end! Loved this story! Have fun with what ever it is you do and remember don't judge someone book by the the chapter you walked in on!
