A stabbing pain in my leg got me conscious again. "Ugh... Oww... Shit." I mumbled as I tried to get into a more comfortable position. The first thing that caught my attention were the handcuffs around my wrists. "Shit!" I said a little louder when my leg obviously wanted my attention. "Fuck, my leg." I finally took the time to look around and I sensed that the car was still upside down. Through the broken window I saw a person lying on the ground, bathing in blood. Because of the uniform the person wore, I knew it was the police officer.
I had to get out of the car. Through the broken window wasn't an option; I would have to wring me in impossible positions. My only option was to break the glass that was in front of me, and climb out that way. After four times kicking the glass, my foot darted through the window. I shuffled closer to the now-a-hole-with-a-few-shards. I had to drag myself out, which wasn't that easy; my hands were still cuffed and my leg hurt like shit. My hands grabbed the edge of the window and I got myself out. Not very smoothly, because I fell hard on the ground.
I got myself together and got up. I was a little light in my head, but after a few seconds that feeling vanished. The pain in my leg dominated again. Leaning on the car, trying not to put too much weight on my painful leg, I hobbled around the car. Now I could see the police officer clearly, and this situation wasn't looking all too well. A blood trail leaded to the police officer, with more blood around him. I also saw a shotgun, which I figured belonged to the cop. I also figured it didn't save him. But I did wonder what he needed it for.
Slowly, I hobbled towards the police officer. His keys were clearly visible, but I was kinda scared to get them. Eventually I quickly grabbed the keys and unlocked my left hand. I rubbed my wrist and couldn't resist to crack a smile. That felt good. Just when I finished unlocking my right hand, I heard a moaning, groaning, screaming and screeching sound, all in one. It didn't sound really human, but because it came from the officer I knew it wasn't some animal.
Suddenly the officer pushed me down, so I was lying on my back. The officer kept making those sounds and he looked really sick. I clearly saw his wounds now and his sclera was green instead of white. Also his skin had a weird, greenish color. And: he was clearly coming for me.
I pushed myself away from the officer. I knew I didn't have a lot of time, so I didn't get up. That would take too long. In my mind I cursed when I felt the car against my back. My heart started beating like crazy. I quickly scanned the area around me and the shotgun caught my eye. I grabbed it and checked the ammo. None. Not much time left. The officer probably used all of it to save himself. Then, from the corner of my eye, I saw a shell and I also grabbed that. When I tried to get the shell into the shotgun, it slipped through my fingers because I was panicking. Not much time left. "Shit!" I bend over to grab it again and this time I got the ammo in. "I don't want to hurt you!" I yelled to the police officer. I really didn't want to. This time I was more than conscious that I would kill someone. The case with my wife's lover it just went black. But I guess this time, I didn't have a choice. Not much time left. I loaded the gun and fired it. Right through the officer's forehead.
