My heart starts beating faster."Yeah"
My face pales when he looks down, what's happening?
"About tonight.."
He looks at me, probably wanting me to answer but I can't breath right now, let alone talk.
"Are you alright?" He finishes.
"What?" I blurt.
His eyebrow knit together, "You saw your cheating ex tonight and everything, I just wanted to make sure you were okay."
I sigh from relief, which he mistakes for sadness.
Triston gently grabs my hand, "Hey, it's okay to be upset. Just know he's a dick to cheat on you, bastard didn't realize what he had until it was gone."
"Thank you." I whisper and give his hand a quick squeeze.
"I'm serious, you're really special Sage. Any guy would be lucky to have you."
My heart flutters.
"I didn't know you were so caring" I say and playfully punch his shoulder, even though my heart is racing being close to him.
He catches my wrist, "I'm offended, I'll have you know I'm a very caring person."
I'm sure he can hear my heart beating by now.
I blush, "I can see that"
He releases my wrist, "You want me to walk you home?"
"No that's okay, thank you though"
"Oh well, I'm walking you home."
I shake my head, I should have known.
We start walking and I notice it's painfully silent.
"Do you ever get over it?"
Triston looks taken back by my question, "What?"
"Being cheated on. You know, do you ever get over it?"
He stops walking and looks up at the moon.
I'm afraid I went too far, it's a pretty personal question after all.
"Some part of you will always be affected, it affects your trust. Makes you more closed off, but in a way it helps. "
I must have looked confused because he gives me a little laugh.
"When you build walls like that, not everybody is willing to break them. It keeps out the shallow ones."
"So, you're saying walls help you find the right one?"
He shrugs, "It could, who else would work that hard and just leave?"
I look down, "What if they just like the challenge, and leave when they find out?"
"Then they never deserved to have you in the first place."
