I ungracefully shuffle my feet, thanks a lot Austin.

Triston clears his throat, "So..you didn't hear anything?"

"I-um.. well.."

His face loses color, "What does that mean?"

"I heard part of the conversation."
I admit.

I can almost see Triston carefully guarding his face.

"What part?"

"Something about telling this girl before you lose her, I don't honestly remember." I anxiously laugh while playing with my ring.

"Tell her what?"

"Am I being interrogated? I don't know."

Triston doesn't reply and I bite my tongue. He's being so secretive, but I don't want to get into a fight over this.

I take a breath and try a different approach, "Are you okay? You're acting a little strange."

"Yeah Sage, I'm fine."

I press my lips together, "Something's bothering you."

"I'm alright okay, just drop it." He says with a harsh tone.

I'm taken back this burst of impatiences, this isn't like him at all.

"Triston.." I reach for his arm.

He moves from my grasp and I feel like I've been hit.

I straighten my spine, "Okay, I see."

"Sage it's not like that." Triston says quickly.

"Not like what? Not like you trust me?" I say exasperated.

He opens his mouth but I cut him off, "You know what it's fine. I get it, we've only known each other for a couple weeks."

"Sage it's not like that.. things are just sorta complicated right now."

"Isn't that what friends are for? To help each other." I accuse.

"Yes-"

My heart drops, "Then there you have it. I was never considered a friend."

"No, it's not like that at." Triston pleads.

"Then what is it Triston? I'm done being screwed over." I'm breathing hard now, and my heart feels like it's being squeezed.

Triston looks conflicted and bites his lip, "It's not the right time.."

"This was a mistake." I whisper.

His eyes widened, I sharply turn and go out the door.

I fiercely wipe the tears with the back of my hand.

"Stupid." I sob to myself.

I throw open my front door and defeatedly walk up to my room.
