Chapter 12

When the sun's first rays had just peeked over the horizon, and loud mechanical "CRACK" sounded before a loud "BOOM" sounded. Ergo was on her talons in a second and peered outside their little house. The walls that Ergo, Goto, and Ito had flown through had a straight crack right down it and a small hole opened up. Goto and Ito were awake and were at Ergo's side as they watched, in silence, as an orange colored pelt slipped through the crack. It was a fox, but not just any fox. It was Spina!

"Spina!" Ergo called down, immediately diving down towards the fox.
"Wow ... er ... hey." He said, his pelt was colored oddly, but Ergo couldn't tell why.
"You okay?" She asked as Spina broke into a spasm of coughing.

Suddenly, he coughed up blood and it spat right out onto Ergo's chest feathers. She flinched, but made her way over to Spina, now seeing why his pelt was colored oddly. Goto landed behind Ergo and she heard Ito land almost at the same time.

"Help him!" She yelled and they stumbled around before flying away to get supplies.
"Idiots ..." She mumbled, scanning Spina's injured body.

Blood streamed out of a large gash on his side, as well as a cut on his snout. His fur was stained with his, and other creatures blood. Soon Goto had found some thick leaves and Ito returned with water. Ergo poured the water onto Spina's wounds while Goto flew off to get some herbs that would help Spina.

"Ergo ..." Spina said, cough.
"Shh, it's gonna be okay, save your energy." She said, pouring more water onto his wounds and washing out the blood from his pelt.
"Get more water!" Ergo yelled to Ito, shoving the shell back into his wings.

Ito looked scared, but he soon took to the air and returned just as Goto did.

"Ergo ... Ergo ..." Spina mumbled.
"Spina, you gotta ..." She was cut short by Spina's loud growl.
"Ye hush Ergo ... Banco and the others have been captured, they were gonna come with me but ... the moment we set a paw outside, we were attacked. I escaped, but ... I got injured and have been running for a day straight ... Ergo, go help them, not me ..." Spina muttered quickly.
"No, no, no ... this ... can't be ... happening ..." She said, backing away.

Horrid thoughts entered her mind of Banco being beaten, or Delhi being stripped of her feathers.

"I never should've left ... NEITHER OF YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT!" She screamed.
"Ergo calm ..." Ito said, being interrupted by Goto.
"Everybody shut up! Just help Spina, he's dying over here!" Goto yelled.

Ergo stumbled over to Spina and poured some water on his wounds before applying the juice of the herbs that Goto had brought. She quickly put on the large leaves and let the herb juice stick to leaves. After a minute Spina grunted.

"Ergo, Goto, Ito, please ... go help them, they're ... in danger." Spina muttered.
"We don't even know where the Owl Kingdom is!" Ito said, his tone harsh toward the old fox.

Spina opened his mouth to protest but Goto spoke first

"Ito and Ergo, go help me bring Spina to safety, then I want to talk to you both ..." Goto said, acting strange.

Ergo whimpered and grabbed Spina's side lightly in her talons. Goto carried the head of Spina while Ito carried the tail, and together the gently placed him in their house. Ito moved outside last, staring inside with fear in his eyes.

"What do you want, Goto ..." Ergo said, feeling like if anyone touched her, her bones would shatter.
"Both of you, get it together. Ito you've been so scared and dumbfounded ever since the Owls came. Get over it!" Goto said, his feathers ruffled.

Ito now looked furious, but he didn't say anything.

"Now, Ergo ... oh Ergo, you really need to get it together." Goto sound, his voice harsh with anger.

Ergo was confused but listened without saying anything.

"Ergo, life isn't just some story! You can't just be the boss all the time, you can't flip out over nothing! You can't just pretend bad things aren't gonna happen, cause they are! Oh, the moment you set a talon outside the cave, you could've been killed! Spina could be setting us into a trap and you don't even care, your just blaming everything on us!" Goto yelled.

Ergo looked down, and at seeing the blood stain on her chest feathers, she closed her eyes.

"And another thing ..." Goto began, but was cut off by her.
"I DONT THINK THE WORLD IS SOME STORY! YOUR THE ONE WHO THINKS ITS SOME STORY ... Do you have any idea how hard it is being the oldest, being liked by some fool, training with Banco, listening to every complaint! If anything, you're the one who thinks it's a story! ..." She yelled, rage filled her and she couldn't hold back anymore. "Y'know what Goto, you can burn in the fire filled pits were the Owls burn!" She shouted, tears filling her eyes as she took to the skies and flew away.

"Ergo!" Goto yelled.
"Ergo wait ..." Ito said at the same time, but she didn't look back.

She simply flew ahead, not caring where she went or what happened. All she knew, was that she truly was alone, physically and mentally. She closed her eyes and let the tears spill from her eyes.

"How could I ever love someone like him?" She thought.
