Author's Note:
Hey guys! I hope you all enjoyed the first chapter of Aftershock. I'm going to try to update at least twice a week, but probably more since it's going to be summer in a few weeks! Also, I'm trying to get the cast list up soon so you can see the characters as I picture them... Anyways be sure to vote and comment who you think the characters should be played by... I was thinking:
- @maggielindemann from Instagram to be Aria
And
- Shawn Mendes as Luke
Let me know what you guys think! ~ Alina

The wind blows through my hair as I balance on my worn out skateboard, avoiding the numerous potholes on the street. Dust blows across the deserted road, making it hard to breathe in. I take my black bandana out of my pocket and wrap it around my nose and mouth. I tie it behind my neck, before flipping my black hood up over my head.
As I glide down the street my hand habitually travels to my waist where my handgun is secured, making sure it's where it's supposed to be. I'm always paranoid I'm going to lose it, even though it's hooked onto my belt.
I scan the cloudy horizon, making sure I'm still the only one on this dusty road. A gas station is about a hundred meters ahead on the side of the road, overgrown by weeds, and its windows shattered. Maybe I could stay there for the night, it's getting late. Besides, there's probably nothing else for miles.
As I get closer to the station, I quickly hop off my board and pick it up. If anyone is already inside, they'll hear me rolling down the pavement. I hold it in my left hand and rest it on the side of my leg, the two sets of wheels on either side of my thigh. I slip the gun out of its holster and make sure there's enough bullets left. There's four bullets, I need to save them for when I really need them. I slide it back in and run my hand through my hair, letting out a quiet sigh. Great. No weapon.
I finally make it to the gas station and swiftly go around the side of it, crouching under the window. I listen closely for the distinct sound of the creatures, the constant gagging and coughing.
When I don't hear anything, I quietly set the board on the ground and cover it with wood before slowly peeking into the building. It's a mess inside, the isles are littered with empty cans of beans and dvd's are scattered across the floor. The freezers are completely empty along with the cash register that is wide open.
I look behind me to make sure nothing else is around, then I hop through the empty window frame, landing with a soft thud on the dusty tile floor. It smells musty and stale, like the basement of an old house.
I slide the bandana down to my neck and stride over to the back room, making sure not to make too much noise. Something could be inside without me knowing it, and I'm not in the mood for any surprises.
With my hand on my gun belt, I kick open the metal door and relief takes over when I find nothing but scattered magazines and a crowbar. A crowbar. Finally, a useful weapon. I snatch it off the floor and do a few test swings, accidentally knocking a picture frame off of the wall. It skids onto the ground, glass shattering across the floor. Yeah...I should probably practice outside.
I exit the back room holding my newfound weapon and kick an empty can of Spam across the isle. I should probably start looking for anything useful that's left, which doesn't seem like there will be very much.
I start with the isles that aren't knocked over, scanning it for candy bars, bags of nuts, anything really. I end up finding a pack of gum, a broken Hershey's bar, an unopened bag of Dorito's (hallelujah), and a rubber band.
I honestly don't know what the rubber band is for, other than my entertainment. These days, it's extremely hard to have fun or fight off boredom, so if this rubber band is all I can get, I'll take it.
