*Luke's P.O.V*

I'm awakened by a harsh banging on the tinted window of the SUV, followed by muffled growling. My eyes automatically shoot open, and I'm greeted by a particularly angry creature on the other side of the glass.
It's yellow eyes aren't focused on me, so it probably can't see inside very well.

It pounds again, vibrating the window. I hear Aria shuffle behind me, and a strange need to protect her takes over me.

I have to wake her up before this thing gives her a heart attack.

My hand reaches back and gently rubs her shoulder.

"Hey Ari," I whisper "it's time to get up. Don't make a sound."

I watch as her eyes flutter open and Ari looks at my hand on her shoulder, then to me. She smiles as she sees that I woke her up, but quickly stops when she realizes what's outside.
A tiny gasp escapes her full lips. The girl looks to me then back at the undead creature, fear making her visibly shake.

I put my finger up to my lips, signaling for her to be quiet.

Come on, Luke. Aria needs you right now. Don't you dare get killed.

"Aria, as soon as I get out, lock the doors." I state as I start to pull the handle.

I'm stopped by her hand grasping my shoulder, pulling me against the back of the soft seat.

"Please be careful, Luke." She shakily tells me before giving me a shy kiss on the cheek.

Did that just happen? What does that mean? Does she like me?

I can still feel the warmth of her lips as I quietly step outside of the car, closing it behind me with a soft click.

The creature coughs, liquid taking up it's lungs. I can see the blood dripping from its mouth, running down its chin.

I slowly step around the back of the car, being careful not to crunch any left over corn husks. Ari watches me from inside, her hand clasped over her mouth. A tear rolls down her cheek and I smile at the beautiful girl, hoping to show her I'm alright.

I peer around the edge to the passenger's side where the creature is still aimlessly banging on the door. It isn't even making a dent, is it that weak?

Suddenly, blood shoots out of its throat with a cough, splattering onto the once clear windows. It proceeds to pound on the glass, smearing the dark liquid across the surface.

I take a deep breath before picking up an old cob of corn, tossing it about ten feet behind the creature. It snaps it's head away from the car, staring in the direction of the toss. It isn't convinced, and begins its weak assault on the window, smearing more dark red liquid everywhere.

I try it again, this time more towards the hood of the car. The creature looks up and begins to limp towards the noise. I bend down as I walk, sneaking up as well as I can on the human-like creature.

As it twitches for about the twentieth time, I raise my metal crowbar, ready to smack it in the head. At the last second, it turns around, shrieking. The blood dripping from his mouth splatters onto the ground as my weapon connects with the side of his head. The creature falls to the ground, refusing to give up. It tries to drag itself towards me, clawing at the ground with its mangled fingertips.
