Skyblue was dead. He still haunted me. When he reared the second time, he toppled over, fracturing his skull, in addition to the other serious injuries he sustained from the fall. We had no choice but to put him down.

I still cry at night. I have nightmares, terrible ones. They never go away. I wake up screaming or crying, soaked in sweat.

I made a full recovery. I hated it. I should have been the one that died, not Sky.

My heart was broken.

I couldn't stay.

So I had left.

I walked down the hallway of Yates Preparatory School, feeling like an ordinary girl, who had never seen the horrors I had. I could never ever forget that day. It revisited me every night.

I stopped at my locker to exchange books. My backpack landed on the floor with a thud.

I remembered the thud Skyblue made. It made shivers run up my spine. I picked the backpack up and shouldered it.

My locker clicked open. I grabbed my books and examined the photos in my locker. The photos of my new life. My new start after the accident.

There I was with my two best friends, Ana and Brielle, grinning wickedly at the camera on Halloween. We had been ninjas.

There was Becca, my sister and our dog, Graybeard, named for the little gray hairs sticking out from his chin, like a little goatee, lounging at the pool. That was the day I tried to teach the adorable mutt to swim. He won't go near the pool now.

There was one of my mom and dad on their anniversary, completely surprised at the special dinner Becca and I had prepared.

One of Cricket, the new horse I ride. She's a feisty little girl and being around her always makes me feel better. She's helping me gain my confidence back. That little horse is my savior.

In the very bottom corner was me and Skyblue at our first show together. I was so proud of the first place we had gotten. That seemed like twenty years ago. It made tears spring to my eyes and my stomach lurch.

"Hey LT!" I jumped at the sudden noise and brushed the tears from my eyes.

"Oh, hi," I smiled, hiding my emotions.

Brielle bounced on the balls of her feet next to me. She was dressed brightly as usual and her chic, shiny black hair was pulled into a high ponytail. Her cheeks were flushed, like usual, giving her a unvarying look of excitement.

"You ready for another super-exciting day of school?" Brielle was constantly hyper. It drove me up a wall sometimes, but today I needed it. It raised my spirits a lot.

"Ohhh, yes," I grinned sarcastically.

She grabbed my wrist. "Well come on!" She dragged me off. I barely had time to close my locker.

To math it was!

I slid gracefully into a seat and she plunked down in the desk next to me. She immediately began tapping her foot. She could not sit still.
