Hollowed Out

His cage was lowered the next morning and he stared at the door, waiting for it to open with Fiona or Felix on the other side.
"If it's Fiona, walk straight past her. If it's Felix, run."
It was Fiona...
"Come on, get out."
He did as told and did as planed, he walked past her. He was making his way to the camp.
"Not even a "hello" or "good morning"?" She crossed her arms as Peter just continued to get further and further away. She teleported to his side and walked with him now.
"Are your feelings still crushed?"
He had no expression on his face as he kept on ignoring her.
"I'm taking that as a yes..."
When they arrived at the camp they went their separate ways. Peter began to do his daily duties of making breakfast and cleaning around the camp while Fiona played her part as leader.
As Peter watched the breakfast meat cook in the pan, the sizzling bubbles exploding off the hot surface of the pan, his eyes were dull, no sign of life in them.
Devin came to speak to his old leader like before,
"Peter, are you alright?"
The hollow boy looked up, "I'm afraid not. I rather not talk about it..."
The lost boy furrowed his brows, "It's Fiona, isn't it?"
Pan sighed as he placed the fully cooked rabbit meat onto the serving plate.
"I said I don't want to talk about it..."
Devin wouldn't take his answer so he pressed on,
"Maybe you should talk to her! She has to understand! Didn't she love you back?"
"There's no use in talking to that wretched girl!" He snapped, though he didn't know why he snapped so suddenly. He also didn't know why he said that at all...
"So she's just a wretched girl now? You're not falling head over heels anymore?"
Peter and Devin looked over to find that Felix stood nearby now.
"Devin, I think you should go..." Peter whispered.
The boy nodded and did as told. Felix drew in closer,
"Want to hear something ironic, Pan?"
All the green eyed boy could do was glare.
"Fiona is soon to be in the same fate as you, used... Taken advantage of..." Felix paused for dramatic effect, "I bet that soon, she's going to allow me control of this island and when I do have control, she'll be in your shoes. Don't you find that funny?"
At first Peter was concerned but his face hardened, maybe this was what she deserved...
"Don't worry, Pan. I'll keep you safe. You'll be in my shoes this time, I'll let you be my best man. Just like I was to you." He chuckled before realising something, "And you know what? I've come to realise that this has become a cycle!" He laughed now, "Except, it ends with me."
Peter kept silent, not knowing what to do with this information...
"If you accomplish keeping this plan a secret, you will have the best fate from it. You'll stay silent, right?"
He didn't know what he was agreeing to but he nodded anyway without giving any thought.
"Good. Now if you excuse me, I have a girl to grant me the ownership of this island."

Peter sat on a log, spaced out. He felt like he has nothing to live for, no purpose... Well, that's kind of a lie. He has the lost boys even though he's not their leader. Some boys still talked to him, but not as much as Devin does. Devin was actually becoming a good friend.
"I saved some of the lunch you made... I'm sorry if it's cold." The lost boy handed Peter a cloth that contained an egg in a basket. Pan smiled up at Devin,
"Thank you, Devin." He began to eat silently.
"I'm beginning to notice that Fiona has been too distracted with Felix lately..."
He met the lost boy's gaze to find that Fiona and Felix were flirting. That was when Felix's plan came to his mind... He wish he felt guilt but he couldn't...
"I'm sorry if you still love her, Peter." Devin said, sympathy in his voice.
Peter shook his head, "No, I'm fine. I've moved on..."
"You're sure?"
He nodded, "Yeah," He looked over at Devin, trying to change the subject, "How was your hunt yesterday? The meat was fresh today."
He shrugged, "It was fine, I got three kills from it. I've been getting better."
This reminded Peter about the fact that he nearly ripped the poor boy's shadow out.
"About your wellness, how have you been since that day when... you know?"
Devin gave Peter a puzzled look, "What do you mean?"
"The day I nearly took your shadow."
"Oh, I'm fine. I was only sick for five days."
"Oh... I'm sorry."
Devin went tight lipped, "Don't worry about it... You've changed."
He raised an eyebrow, "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing, it's nothing terrible."
Peter sighed and lowered his head, "I suppose..."
