Everything seemed to stand still in that moment. You had stopped moving and took in a sharp breath. You stared at your boyfriend in disbelief, though his expression remained unchanging.

"...What?"

"I said you were a part of my past life (y/n)."

"Yes I heard you but........ how?!" Your shocked look morphed into a confused one. "Are you- You're lying aren't you?! There's no way that could be it!"

He chuckled a bit. "I know I'm usually known for my lies but I'm not joking this time."

"But-? How-? When- ? What- ?" You couldn't even form a proper sentence.

"Guess it's story time eh?" He grinned childishly and took you by your hand again to bring you to a nearby bench.

"I don't understand.... if you're really telling the truth then why haven't I ever recovered my past memories like you and the other former Barians?"

He shrugged casually. "Guess something inside of you has repressed it." He stopped for a moment. "Which reminds me, do you really want to hear this story?" There was still a hint of hesitation in his words.

You nodded almost immediately. "Of course I want to hear it! To think you've been keeping this to yourself all this time!"

His grin turned into a more depressing one. "I guess I can't keep hiding stuff huh? Well then!" He clasped his hands together. "Let's get this story started shall we?"

You placed both of your hands on your lap and gave him all of your attention. You saw that he was almost fidgeting under your stare. Though he was able to compose himself as he stood up straight and cleared his throat.

"It was back when I was first starting to learn how to be a proper prince. Getting taught about my kingdom and learning all that other boring prince stuff."

*Past POV*

Another day had arrived and the sun shone through almost every window of the beautiful palace. The civilians living outside the castle went on with their work and lived quite peacefully. Inside the castle's corridors were two people hustling through to reach another room.

"Come along your highness, we mustn't keep your studies waiting."

"Yes of course." Trailing closely behind his mentor, a young prince traveled through the hallway carrying a few scrolls in his hands.

"Afterwards you are scheduled to work on your sword and combat training, as said by your father."

"My father?" The prince let out a soft groan. "Must he always intervene with my studies? I have no need to learn anymore combat training when I truly just want to bring peace amongst the kingdom and the lands beyond it."

The elderly man grinned. "An earnest goal, your highness. But it is your father who is king, and as such you must follow his orders."

"Yes, I am aware of that. I just hope he could one day see the other side of things."

"Hopefully one day, your highness. I'm sure you'll be an excellent king yourself in the future."

The two reached a large wooden door that the older man pushed open. There, a collection of handwritten books and scrolls were stored away in shelves and cabinets. The mentor lead the young prince to a clear table where they set down their own scrolls and books.

"Now, shall we get started?"

"Yes, let us."

Thus the prince's daily lessons began once more. They ranged from politics to literature to philosophy and everything in between. During this time, the king and queen of the land would also come together to speak about their son. And their views greatly differed from one another's.
