I've avoided looking at the dating profile after what happened with Remus. I wasn't mean on purpose when I said that he looks like Harry Potter. The coincidences were too many, and the situation was comical. Well, only for me so to see.
His words left me marked. I've heard them too many times in my life. A girl called me once Weird Nina, and that was my label until I went to college.
I was lucky that Lisa was in the same school. She found out that my classmates were bullying me in a passive aggressive way and told Mom. One of the boys started a game in which people had to do as if I didn't exist.
Mom went down to the school and gave the director an earful. The kids stopped the stupid game, but still call me Weird Nina whenever possible.
What was so odd about me? I started showing interest in computer systems at a young age. I also collected cards and played role games with dices with Elijah and his friends. I didn't have friends of my own because no one had my same interests or didn't want to be seen around me.
When I started college, it was a new begin. People didn't care about what I liked or how I looked. Still, I had that small nagging thought that people were going to find me weird. That was until a guy with bushy hair, wearing shell necklaces and reeking of 'herbs' took a place next to me.
"Is this Programming 101?" he asked.
"Yeah, are you supposed to be here? We started two weeks ago," I said.
"I was indisposed," he said with a wicked grin.
"You mean high as a kite?" I said, lifting an eyebrow.
"That was some crazy shit I bought. Never again," the guy said, shaking his head. "I was so sick as a dog. Puked as if I had three stomachs," he said while I felt disgusted at the idea.
"When was the last time you smoked?"
He scrunched his face to think, and it was kind of cute.
"Two weeks ago,"
"Really? You smell like if you did it five minutes ago," I laughed.
"Oh, crap! I can't get the smell out of the van,"
"Why didn't you come to college? I assume you weren't sick the whole two weeks,"
"I milked the illness. Played games and let my mom smother me a bit. She figured out that I was faking it and sent my ass here,"
I looked at him and admired his odd honesty. Then I realized that he was in a wheelchair. His out of the ordinary personality had me entertained, and I didn't notice.
"I'm Nina," I said, offering my hand.
"Taylor," he said, shaking it. "Your name is cute,"
And since then, I stopped being Weird Nina and started being myself. Taylor and I accepted each other with all our virtues and faults. We were weird together, and it was okay.
I settle in front of the TV with a bowl of disgusting microwave noodles, as I have no desire in cooking. The doorbell rings, and I wonder who it can be.
"Hey, you have a key. Why didn't you come in?" I say to Taylor who has a big box on his lap.
"I'm afraid that I will let the box fall," he says as he comes inside. A scent of something delicious follows him.
"What do you have in there?" I say, motioning with my head to the box.
"Well, I felt sorry for what happened to your cake mixes, and one of my colleagues had a solution,"
