Three months later
Taylor's fingers tap his legs nervously. I made him wear a blindfold. Today is his 30th birthday and I want it to be the most memorable ever.
"I can't run if you want to kidnap me," he says and I laugh.
"I'm not kidnapping you. I only don't want you to guess,"
"This is making me nervous, Nina,"
"No need for that,"
"Where are we going? You are not bringing me back to the hotel from New Year's Eve, right?"
I snort laughing. Our winter vacation turned terrible, but brought us closer.
It all began when we arrived at the beautiful hotel. It looked promising until we turned around the corner and saw the queue to check in. We have done shorter lines at theme parks.
"I hope this is a sign of the quality of the place," I said to Taylor.
"Or they are horribly slow in doing their job,"
When we got to the clerk, we were informed that only regular rooms were available.
"I requested in the reservation I want a room with wheelchair facilities," I said to the clerk who had a suicidal look.
"I understand Miss Cox, but here in the terms and conditions print it says that on high occupancy periods, we can't guarantee requests," I felt like an ass when he pointed the small print I didn't read.
Taylor told me not to worry. When we got to the room, I had to move a suitcase rack out of the way so Taylor could get inside.
"I have just enough space to move around the bed," Taylor said.
I would not let my boyfriend suffer the consequences of the hotel's bad planning. I took out the desk chair, the two corner chairs, the small table between them, and one of the night tables and placed them in the hallway.
"Not our problem anymore," I said after bringing the last thing outside.
Taylor smiled at me and headed to the bathroom.
"Shit. I don't think you can move a tub to the hallway,"
I came to stand next to him. The tub was the least of our problems. You couldn't close the door unless you were inside the bathroom, with the chair it was impossible.
"Let me go back to the reception," I grabbed a room key.
"No. I will find a way," he held my hand.
After unpacking, we headed out for dinner only to find we needed reservations. We got in my car and drove to a casual restaurant. Good thing I had tickets already for the New Year's party or we would have nowhere to go.
The rest of the week we used to explore the area. We went back to the hotel to shower and sleep. With the bathroom problem, Taylor used my help to transfer first to the bathtub edge and then I could remove the chair to close the door.
New Year's Eve arrived, and I felt excited. Taylor dressed on the bed while I put on make-up in the bathroom. I wore the red dress I loaned from Lisa. We looked like a magazine couple, all shiny and elegant.
The party was in a large ballroom and it was already full when we arrived. The music was loud. We stayed on the perimeter of the dance floor, looking for a place to sit but everything was taken.
"All I'm seeing are butts," Taylor shouted.
"I can't see a shit either. Not even with these heels," I shouted back.
