Thunder boomed over head, and lightning flashed as bright and quick as a light bulb burning a fuse. Cambria woke in a sweat at the sound. She placed her head on her knees and steadied her breathing. She looked at her alarm clock and blinked a couple of times, adjusting to the glow of the screen. The clock read: 3:26 am, November 16, 2098. Cambria was disturbed at the thought that came to her mind. It's half-way through November, and then it's December. Then a new year. She thought. An event has yet to start, and it's the four year mark. It should happen soon. Shouldn't it? Cambria rolled onto her side and struggled to fall asleep again, but sleep wouldn't take her. She sighed and got out of bed. Cambria Eliston is a 16 year old girl who lives with her mother, father and her older brother in Sanction 14 out of the 28 Sanctions in Concordis. Her mother worked from home by planning fundrasiers for the poorest Sanctions. Her father was a busy man who was at his office programming computers most of the day. Her older brother, Kody, was a 23 year old college drop-out who was too haunted by his memories of the 2092 event to continue with his studies. They weren't a very close family, but they were enough to get through the day without any problems.

Cambria walked out of her room and down the stairs into the living room. She sat down on the white leather coach and turned on the TV. She stared blankly at the screen, unable to enjoy whatever she was watching. She was too nervous to focus, but too anxious to sleep, so instead she stared straight ahead. Thinking about the "event" known as Exsilium Inbecillus made her sick to her stomach. The event was a source of evil, it was a way to exterminate those who were weak and unusable in society. Like the Spartans, how they only wanted strong healthy babies, those who didn't make the cut were abandoned for death. But this event was executed in a more disturbing, unlawful way. Cambria shook herself out of her thoughts before they took a toll on her and made her depressed during the day. She glanced back into the kitchen and looked at the clock on the stove. It read: 5:45 am. How long did I blank out for? She got up and walked solemnly up the stairs into her bathroom. She studied herself in the mirror. Her skin was even more pale than usual, her brown hair seemed dank and lifeless and her green eyes dull and fused with anxiety. Cambria curled her hair with a curling wand and applied some make up to maker herself look a little more like a girl than a ghastly ghoul. She ran downstairs to see her older brother  eating cereal in nothing but his underwear. "It'd be nice if you didn't sit spread-eagle in the kitchen with nothing but underpants on." Cambria stated as she grabbed a protein shake. Kody swallowed his food then replied "Well then you woudn't be able to see my pride and joy and have an even better day at school." he pointed down towards his man-hood. She rolled her eyes and headed to the garage door, she grabbed her car keys off the hook and opened the door. Cambria started her car and then backed out of the garage.

Cambria pulled into a parking stall at her school. The school looked more like a college campus then a high school. All with the Roman architecture and huge dome at the front. Unfortunately it held the most worthless teenagers in the entire Sanction. All they cared about were looks, and dating and silly boy bands. And the ones who actually did care about academics were the ones who were shunned and not cared about. Cambria got out of her car and walked in. Instantly the roar of teenagers erupted in the building. They were all crowded in the commons and on the banaster above. There were stairs on either side of the banaster that were also crowded with standing teens talking about stuff that probably wasn't important. Cambria wasn't popular, she had about 6 good friends and boys couldn't even remember her name no matter how much they tried, which they usually didn't. But she didn't mind, in this world, it's better not to have attachments, because they end up bringing you to your doom. She made her way up the stairs, avoiding the adolescents and annoyed glances that shot towards her, judging her every movement. Cambria finally made it to her class which was History of Concordis. She sat in her seat and put her head on her desk. She heard someone sit in the desk in front of her, but didn't bother to look up. "Cambria?" a voice called her name. It was a guys voice. She looked up into the bright blue eyes of Marshal Price. Great, what does this guy want? "Yeah?" Cambria asked annoyed. "You dropped your wallet." He put her red wallet on her desk and scooted it towards her. She took it rolled her eyes and stuck it into her backpack. "Thanks" she muttered. Marshal ran a hand throught his black hair and turned around in his seat. Marshal was the definition of long, tan and handsome. Every girl wanted him in middle school, but ever since he started his Sophomore year, he's been quiet and disconnected from his friends, girls and sports. Which were his life back in the day. He turned around again "Hey, so can I ask you something? It has to do with Exsilium Inbecillus."
