As the day slowed passed by, Barry and the hostages were safe from harm. The robbery had been plastered over the news, yet another save from the Flash. Much to the police department's disappointment. These days, with the man in the red suit zipping around the city, they found themselves working less and less.
The cafe cast before Caitlin streaming into the building with its honeyed hues, its homey aroma filling the auburn haired girl with a warm sensation. Nothing matched the scent of a coffee shop. Her brown eyes flickered up from the steaming coffee between her grasp, her attention falling upon Barry and Iris. The two laughing lightly with one another, a little too close for Caitlin's liking. A part of her would always fear his old feelings for the dark haired girl, knowing how much he yearned for the woman not even two years ago. The jealousy always found a way to creep into her chest.
Caitlin turned away from the pair, wanting to focus her attention elsewhere. But it seemed the man she cared for had noticed the lack of attention, a shadow appearing upon the table before her. It was hard not to look up at him, the man an entire head taller than her as she met his usual pearly smile. She didn't match it, merely returning her gaze to the table feeling partly hostile. She knew it wasn't entirely fair, Barry hadn't intentionally made her jealous.
"Hello, beautiful. What's with the frown?" Barry asked, not oblivious to the unimpressed expression on his girlfriends face.
Caitlin shrugged, "I think we need to talk about some things."
The words weighed heavily on Barry's chest, sounding awfully like a break up. But he nodded, slipping into the seat across from her and taking up her hand in his. His thumb tracing softly against the back of her hand.
"What's on your mind?" Worry laced beneath his words as he wondered if he'd done anything wrong.
His touch left a lingering heat along her skin, it amazed her how just a small touch made her feel so good. Not even Ronnie had made her feel that way. A sigh passed her lips, unsure whether to say the next gather of words.
"When I first met you, I hated you...because you survived when Ronnie didn't. But after caring for you for so long, the anger started to subside," Caitlin confessed, her grip on Barry's hand tightening. "You were my distraction from grieving for so long, you were the first person I opened up to about Ronnie - I didn't even tell Cisco."
"Cait-"
"I didn't think I'd feel anything but anger for someone for so long, but then I met you and for so long, I buried my feelings. I saw the way you looked at Iris. There was no way you'd look at me with such love," She continued, taking an inhale as she tried to catch her breath. "But then you did, you were the first person I'd see in the morning, holding my coffee like you'd made it your mission to make me smile. It only fuelled my love for you. What I'm trying to say, is I love you, Barry."
She wasn't the best at conveying her emotions, it typically ended up sounding like a ramble. Caitlin gnawed on her bottom lip in anticipation, her big brown eyes watching Barry in fear. They'd barely even started dating and springing the big 'I love you.' Was a risky move. A soft smile stretched across Barry's face, his green eyes softening. The previous nerves were washing away.
"You're something special, Dr Snow." He chuckled warmly, leaning across the table to plant a light kiss on her lips. Caitlin falling into the action with a hum of approval, his hand coming to cradle her jaw. "I just so happen to love you too."
The trapped butterflies that swarmed her ribs were finally set free. The love for Barry finally completely and happily consumed her. Iris seemed to have sensed the shift between the two, watching as their hands were intertwined, a happy glow radiating off of them. The storm that had hung over Caitlin had cleared, a smile in place of the frown. Iris was tempted to ask, curious as to why they hadn't told anyone about their newfound relationship yet.
Barry's eyes bored into Caitlin's, the woman now tucked into his side as they pushed through the front door of Jitters. Her expression mirrored his own, a humble wave of joy smeared across both of their faces. The speedster knew it would be impossible to hide from Cisco, the boy had pestered him time and time again about the way he looked at Caitlin. Urging him to ask her out, he did know Caitlin best after all. Barry placed a gentle kiss on top of his girlfriend's head.
"I'm assuming this means I'm going to have to order a double bed?" Barry laughed, knowing his single bed was way too small for the both of them.
Caitlin shook her head, her hand resting upon Barry's chest. "Or you know, we can stay at my place? I mean, I already have a double bed and there's definitely room for your toothbrush in my on-suite."
"Are you asking me to move in with you, Snowflake?"
Caitlin felt a blush burn across her cheeks, "No, I'm just saying there's always a bed to stay in at my place."
"I'd never say no to that." Barry grinned in victory, knowing Joe would probably prefer the two staying out when they're having a little rendezvous. "Come on, it's getting late, I'll let Joe know we'll be staying at yours."
Caitlin glanced up at him in surprise, "But it's still trashed..."
"It's no longer a crime scene, which means I can help you redecorate." Barry informed her, knowing it would be a hell of a lot faster if he helped. "Think of how fast I could paint your living room, all you have to do is blink and it's done."
Caitlin grinned, relishing in the fact that she had a speedster for a boyfriend. Things would go by a lot quicker than they used to, she just hoped Barry didn't get bored.
