t w o; long walk

Erin began to slowly walk down the dirt road at 8:16 am, which was sunrise. The walk back to Augusta would take around 8 hours; including any close moose or bear encounters she had.
She sighed heavily, trucking along the side of the road and carefully looking at the plains and small tundras. She was bored out of her mind.
And then all of a sudden she felt a certain pain in her lower abdomen.
And then realized she was hungry.
Not hungry; starving.
She doubled over and clutched her stomach, moaning miserably. The last thing she ate was a burger, and that didn't go down well. She then began to jog. The faster the transportation, the better. Erin had done track in middle school; she could run 3 miles in 9 minutes.
The dirt road in Maine was 54 miles long. This could take a while, right?
Erin continued to sprint, and she was sure she had covered 6 miles of ground by this point. She was making a very loud noise with her feet, and as she went up a hill, she grinned. There was a group of 18 moose traveling in a group. Moose and deer are very beautiful animals; however moose are not very well proportioned. (Seriously, have you ever seen a moose? I don't understand how they stand up.)
But then something bursted from the trees, and Erin immediately sprung backwards.
A black bear erupted from the forest and began attacking the moose in a frenzy of snarling and growling; injuring them all fatally. As Erin was stepping backwards, she stepped on a stick.
And in that moment, Erin knew that she had messed up.
All the moose and the bear immediately turned on their hooves and paws, staring at her. Erin stood still, preparing to run.
And then, the bear made it's first sign of hostility. It placed one paw forward and scrunched its nose, growling softly.
And thank God Erin could climb.
If you didn't know this, any bear can outrun a human. Duh. But can a bear even climb a tree?
Yes.
Erin ran and sprinted and grabbed a tree, lifting her legs up.
She climbed as high as she could, and looking down; the bear wasn't climbing.
It was fiercely clawing the tree, and suddenly soon enough, the bear was crawling up the tree faster than a chipmunk ever could.
And Erin came to the conclusion that the only way to get out of this was to jump.
So she jumped off the tree and into the grass, and all of a sudden a searing pain was spiraling through her leg.
But she wasn't willing to die today.
So she ran and she ran deeper and deeper into the woods, not stopping to look behind her.
She could hear the bear, his feet hitting the ground noisily. And then, she tripped.
Her back was against a dark oak log, and she couldn't get up fast enough.
Erin could see the bear.
It had large, yellow canine teeth, saliva threaded through each one. She could feel it's warm breath on her face. It had huge, padded paws and a long spine.
The bear leaned back and launched itself at Erin.
But something was stopping it.
Whenever the bear attempted to get within 3 inches from Erin, it was like he couldn't.
He lightly placed his paw down, and a pulse of blue was seen. The outline of a circle around Erin became visible.
Erin paused.
A force field?
And then, Erin came to realization. Erin could beat this thing.
So she threw her hand back and grabbed whatever was sticking off the tree, and off came a bear claw.
Aha.
The bear had clawed the tree so hard, a huge, knife-sized claw was left.
So Erin took the claw, and she swung with all her might at the bear.
As soon as the claw made contact with the bear, it's eyes rolled back and a huge, black, misty substance erupted from it's mouth. It made an eerie, screeching noise and then swerved between trees back into the deep, dark forest.

It flew three more miles and then dropped down to the ground, looking around frantically. It was looking for another animal to transform into, so it could stalk,  or even hurt the girl. It had finally realized something about the teenager; she was special. She was somehow able to outrun it. She could climb a tree almost faster than it could. She was so agile and yet so fragile. And that weird feeling that was holding it back from killing her.
It wasn't a feeling.
It was a force to be reckoned with. It was a force that was telling it "No. You can't touch her." And in that moment, it had a sudden feeling in the pit of it's stomach. This was the moment it had been waiting for it's whole 1,000 year life. To find the special one, the unique one.
It had finally found the chosen one.
But first, it'd have to confirm this theory, by pushing the girl's efforts to the limit.
