t h r e e; run, mouse, run!

Erin could feel her heart beating like a drum. That bear had nearly killed her; how was she able to defeat it? It's physically impossible for the fastest human to outrun a bear. But somehow, she had.
Erin twisted her hair around her finger in curiosity. It was like some weird, alternate universe.
And then, she heard crackling in the woods behind her.
She turned around to see the biggest animal she'd ever seen.
It was a huge, six foot tall, grizzly bear.
Grizzly bears in Maine?
It couldn't be..
It had the same look in its eye as the other bear; scared, but fierce.
It gave a vicious roar, all the skin on it's neck vibrating with the loud noise.
Erin flinched and turned around to run, spinning on her heal. She quickly ripped a sharp branch off of the ground and began to sprint in the direction of Augusta.
But then, she stopped sprinting. A long, long, river of mighty flowing water stretched across and entire plain.
And as she turned around, the bear stood before her.
It stood proudly, it's chest puffed, saliva dripping from it's huge mouth. Large, sharp yellow teeth filled it's throat. It had pitch black eyes; not a small speck of white; just black.
Erin looked at the river, then looked at the bear.
Be eaten or drown?
And then she made the decision for herself.
Neither.
"See ya later, Fluffy."
Erin flipped backwards into the river from where she was standing; creating a huge splash. Her whole body was submerged into the river; but her feet didn't touch the ground. She looked up to see the bear running alongside the river; and then it did something she would have never expected.
It jumped in.
It roared tumultuously, snarling wildly.
The water was numbing her limbs; slowly but surely. The floor of the stream was covered in jagged rocks and crabs. And then, a cloud of mist was seen ahead, blocking everything from view.
What is that?
.....
It was a noise of rushing water, collapsing into one spot.
A waterfall.
Erin scrambled for the side of the river, hanging onto the ground above tightly. She'd come too far.
Memories came flashing back.
Her mother before she died, fighting for her life, struggling to breath.
And then Erin squeezed her eyes shut.
Be the fighter your mother always was.
A surge of adrenaline pumped through Erin's arms, causing her to pull herself to safety.
Glancing behind her, the bear was about to fall to it's death.
But then, it found a slight indent in the ground and clawed its way out.
Erin cursed under her breath, drenched, cold, and full of leeches.
Erin closed her eyes and lifted up she pant leg to find around twenty leeches clinging to her skin. She moaned in agony, plucking them off using her long grown fingernails.
A silent tear rolled down her cheek, blood seeping from twenty different scars on her leg. Her calf was a red ocean; scarlet blood was flowing down her skin to her ankles.
Erin took off her belt and wrapped it around the top of her leg, stopping the blood slightly.
But it kept bleeding.
She ran as fast as she could with the searing pain in her thigh. She could hear the bear sniffing and wandering around, smelling every tree.
Eighteen was too young of an age to die. It wasn't right.
Erin stopped for a second, letting her thoughts consume her.
Bears can climb trees.
Bears aren't the best swimmers.
Bears have sharp teeth.
What's the special thing about this bear?
It never gives up.
How can I make it give up?
By doing something beyond it's control.
So she stood there.
She stood there and she waited for the bear. But trust me when I say, Erin was not going to die.
As soon as the bear was in view, Erin sprinted towards a ravine. The ravine went so deep, it was probably as deep as the Grand Canyon.
So she jogged for a while, letting the bear catch up. But then, she began to run as fast as she could. It was running so fast, it probably couldn't stop.
So she ran right to the edge of the ravine and then hopped to the left, stopping herself from falling to her death.
But the bear couldn't come to an abrupt stop. It slid straight down into the canyon, into the depths.
Erin groaned, even though she was satisfied.
Her entire leg was bruised and swollen, and it was already swelling up more.
Erin looked around to make sure nothing was around, and then she screamed as loud as she could.
