"Oh Christian honey, you look so dapper, come here, let me have a look at you" says Viola's grandmother as we walk through the door and into her home. It was nice, but clearly belonged to an old woman. There was needlepoint everywhere and the walls were decorated with some creepy paintings of twisted vines.
The carpet was all pink and there was a wooden staircase leading upstairs but Viola's grandmother ushered us into the living room which was adjacent to the hallway we had entered.
Viola's grandmother spun Christian around like she was eyeing an outfit on a mannequin and then grabbed him in a tight embrace.
"You kids need to come see me more often, I get so lonely in this big old house" she says.
"Gran, we came and saw you two days ago" Viola says as she enters the living room.
"Yes, two days ago, much too long for me" she says and kisses Christian's cheek then seems to notice me standing awkwardly at the door.
"And who is this beauty?" She asks and I blush.
"This is Sky" Says Viola and introduces us. "Sky, this is my grandmother-"
"Call me Gran, they all do" she says and I nod.
"Hello Gran" I say and she hugs me as well.
"So this is the Sky I've heard so much about?" She asks. They talked about me? When? And why?
"Yes Gran" says Viola with a wink in my direction. Christians face grows steadily more red but then he sits down and gets to the issue at hand.
"We have a little situation" he says. Gran's face becomes serious and she sits down as well and motions for me and Viola to sit on the couch across from hers.
"What kind of situation?" She asks, eyeing me warily, probably not knowing that I know about the whole magic thing.
"Sky is very good at what we do" Christian says, beating around the bush a little.
"In what way?" Gran asks and I take charge of the conversation.
"I'm too powerful. I can ask the lights to turn on and off and they will as I'm saying it" I say. Gran looks puzzled for a moment then tells me to hold her hands.
As soon as our skin touches, she yanks her hands back with a cry of "Quis diabolus partum vos carus parvulus."
"What?" I ask confused. "What is it?"
She takes a deep breath, it seems to steady herself, and looks at me with fear in her eyes. "There is a set of mind I discovered long ago that lets one gauge anothers ability" she says. "It tells me relatively how much power a person is able to wield. With these five, they were all in the normal range, though Jasper was a little below the rest, but you. You have too much. You have too much power for one person, I have never seen someone with a capability to wield so much." Never? She was starting to worry me.
"All I did was turn a light on and off" I say. Then I see Gran get an idea.
"What did you see?" She asks.
"A light..?" I ask, confused as to what she means.
"No, when, I believe Christian helped you" he nods. "What did you see when you went for your walk through your brain?"
"I" I say and try to recall everything; every detail. "I was walking down a concrete path that was flanked on both side by really green grass. Then, I saw a huge glowing ball at the end of the path and felt drawn towards it. So I ran towards it and it seemed to be moving towards me at about the same pace. When I got to it, I started to get worried but decided that I was still curious enough to touch it. So I touched it with the tips of my fingers and then I woke up on the ground of the cabin."
