My eyes fluttered open to the light of morning sun. I reached across the bed and grabbed the closest thing to me: My Husband. Jace and I had been married for 8 years and still loved each other as if we were married yesterday. The sound of little children feet filled the air as my two sons, Archer and Rider, ran into the room and started jumping on the bed.
"Mommy! Mommy! There's only 10 more days till Christmas!" Yelled 5 year old Archer. Jace moaned as 3 year old Rider body slams his legs.
"Guys, your mommy and daddy are trying to sleep." Jace said "and so are your sisters."
"Well, Phoebe and Rockelle are watching 'Jackie Chan' movies in the game room but Chloe is still sleeping." Replied Archer, and just as if on trigger Chloe started crying. I slid my legs off the bed, picking up Rider, and walked out the door into the wooden Hallway of the Institute. The smell of Izzy's early morning coffee wafted about the hallway.
As I walked into the nursery, I set Rider on his bed and went over to Chloe's crib. Her crying became a small whimper as she saw me coming over.
"Ahhhh honey come here." I soothed, picking her up, lightly patting her small back. Chloe was only about 9 months old. She was the youngest child out of 5. Then it was Rider at 3, then Phoebe at 4, Archer at 5 and Rockelle at 9(yes, I had her before I was married).
I turned to see that Rider had toddled out of the room. I got up from the rocking chair and sat Chloe on the changing table. (I'm not gonna go into the details of the changing process, ew) After changing her, I slipped a reindeer onesie on her and bounced out of the room. The only others still living in the Institute were Simon and Izzy, plus their daughter Jane at 4 and son Cornelius(Izzy's Idea) at 6. I waltzed into the kitchen half expecting no one to be in there. But no, EVERYONE was in there. Simon, Izzy and Jace were sitting at the island while Rockelle, Neil(Short for Cornelius), Rider, Phoebe, and Archer sat at the grand table in the dining room. On the counter lay a breakfast of red and green pancakes and bacon.
"Yummmmm! Smells good." I said, putting Chloe in her high-chair. I walked over to Jace and raped my arms around his waist, taking a little break from being a mom.
"How'd you sleep?" Asked Simon as he handed me a plate loaded with pancakes and bacon.
"Actually pretty good, TILL MY CHILDREN WOKE ME UP!" I emphasize. I turned and look at my boys, who are failing to hide their giggles.
"How is planning Christmas going?" I asked Izzy.
"Well, so far we are for sure having Alec and Magnus plus family, your Mom and Dad, Maya and Jordan and we are still waiting on my parents." She laid out.
"That's good."
"Yeah my dad still doesn't know if he'll be available but my mom for sure will come." She smiled.
"That's also good."
Rider skipped into the kitchen, carrying everyone's plates and silverware.
"That's so nice that you took everyone's plates for them." I said kissing his head.
"Well, they made me!" He nodded his head towards the table where the kids were looking innocent, though I knew there was nothing innocent about those trouble makers.
"Hey! Hurry up and change! You've all got training today!" Simon yelled, ruffling my hair as he passed me on his way to the training room.
I sat down on the stool and gazed out the window as the sound of 6 little children feet pounded down the hallways to their rooms.
My name is Clary Frey Herondale, and this is my life.
