Just like the lawyer said a woman came over to the shelter the next day and handed me the documents. She wasn't very friendly and seemed to rushing to get out of the shelter, which I couldn't blame her, I don't think she would have wanted to be seen at a place like this. However, the documents weren't the only thing that we were waiting for, I had to make a hard decision, one that I never thought I would have to make. I had to go back to my town house and get my personal documents, ones that I had forgotten to grab when I left. The one problem was that I had no idea how I was going to go there and get them without bumping into him. Ashley was brains behind the idea, she told me that we could go to the police and see if they were willing to help. I doubted that they would help me out, since they never believed me to begin with, but it was the only idea we had so I jumped on it. To my surprise the police listened to me this time, maybe it was because it was documented that he was abusive towards me or the fact that I was living in a shelter at the time. Either way I was able to get an office to come with me to my town house and force him to give me my documents and any other belongings that I had a right too, which wasn't much.

"Where on earth have you been? You think you can just leave me?" Donny shouted, not caring that the police officer was in the room with us.

"Sir, if you don't calm down I will have to remove you from the building until she is finished." The officer stated, placing a hand on his side arm.

"You think you can get away, this cop isn't going to be with you forever and when you least expect it I will come back and you will be mine again." Donny whispered as he walked by me before leaving the room.

I shivered and tightly clutched the clothes I was packing; it took a moment for me to snap out of the fear before I continued to pack the bag. I had decided to make this trip worth it, I had clothes and items that I wasn't able to grab when I first left that I wished I had, now I had a chance to do just that, and I wasn't going to miss it this time. When I finished packing away my life I motioned to the officer that I was done and walked away, hoping that I would never see him again, but knew deep down that wasn't going to happen. Just before I was able to leave the house a hand reached out and grabbed me by my arm, I screamed, dropping the bags and thrashing against him. There were shouts coming from the officer and Donny, I hadn't noticed that the officer had pulled his weapon until the shot rang out, blazing by my ear. Oh god, had I been shot? Or was it Donny that had been shot. I got my answer when the grip on my arm disappeared and I heard a loud moan from behind me. Turning, I found Donny on the floor holding his bleeding arm, he had been shot. I must have been in shock because I couldn't seem to move or speak and couldn't take my eyes off Donny, who was whirling in pain on the floor.

"Miss, are you okay? I have backup on the way." The voice seemed distance and I could only nod my head.

"Okay, why don't you come and take a seat over here while we wait for everyone else." He sounded so calm, but what would I have thought, this was his job, he had to be calm in situations like this.

"Thank you." I whispered, only now noticing a burning sensation coming from my stomach.

Confused I pulled my shirt up to see what the burning was and saw red, I had been cut. I looked back to Donny and saw the police officer kicking a kitchen knife away from him, he cut me? When did that happen? Was that why Donny was shot? With all these thoughts were running through my head I didn't notice the sirens coming down the road until a paramedic was squatting in front of me, asking if they could take a look at my stomach. I could only nod, my throat seemed to have dried up and when I tired to form a sentence nothing would come out. When I released my shirt I noticed that my hands wouldn't stop shaking, I held them out in front of me and they just wouldn't stop shaking. I must be in shock, it was the only thing that could explain my hands and how I didn't feel myself being cut. As the paramedic worked on me I turned my head to see what was happening with Donny, he was also being worked on, but now he had handcuffs on.
