I could hear my heart beating like a humming bird. It was always a rush of blood whenever I was with her. Not because of my love for her, it was the brilliance of her presence.
I drummed my fingers on the steering wheel. I could see her walking towards the car. I got out and could sense her warmth coming back to my body. She smiled as she got in the car. I closed the door after her and got in too.
"Are you sure you want to do this with me?"
"Why else why'd I be here?"
"Have you thought of the consequences?"
"I have, for the love of god please stop asking me that every 5 minutes."
"You'll ruin your life."
"I don't see how a job can ruin my life. They'll just fire me."
"You and I both know that's not true. They won't fire you, they'll kill you."
"Then we're going to be on the same boat."
"This is not a fairytale."
"With you, it is."
She looked the other way. Deflated. She's been looking the other way every time she senses that I'll say something uncomfortable about my feelings towards her. I still didn't know if this new version of her has feelings for me or not. But I was holding out hope for her.
She was looking at the map of the ballroom of Grandeúr with her eyes memorising every bit of it. Her hair was tied up and she had a red dress on. She looked beautiful. Oh, so beautiful.
"You look good. Did you forget that this is not a date?" She raised her eyebrows.
"I know it's not." I took a deep breath to catch a hold the car rushing from our side.
"But we must look convincing. Also, you don't look like you're out on a mission either." I continued.
"Are you trying to day that I look good?" She smirked.
"Good? You always look good but tonight you look marvellous." I stole a glance at her.
I could see her getting uncomfortable.
"We have 20 minutes before we get there. Can you check everything?" I tried to fix the chill in the air.
"Okay" she got up and started checking every detail. Things a perfectionist would do. Then again she was desperate for this.

Mr. Roan is the man the city fears the most. But he's also the one who can make anything possible. With the right motivation of course. I guess in short I could say we were going to his fall party for his motivation. Alexandra needed full protection until she could protect herself and get on her feet again. But there were people following her everyday, ready to spill her blood and anything that comes in between that. Or worse, they could imprison her and use her for all the wrong reasons. She is made to be a weapon after all.

"Hey, are you nervous?" Her voice stopped my mind and I blankly stared until I understood what she was asking.
"No. I was just thinking." My eyes still on the road.
"Thinking about?" She raised her eyebrows like she already knows.
"Don't worry. This is nothing. I've handled so much worse. Are you scared?" Talking while driving was getting distracting. I might lose my balance.
"Just for you." I could see her fidgeting but all this fear was not only for me. It was for herself too, I knew.
I still lost balance for a couple of seconds. For my heart wanted to believe her worries for me.
"But that's unnecessary. They won't kill me. I'm the best they have, they won't risk it." I told her with certainty in my voice but with no certainty in my mind. Only I know the lengths the company would go to protect their secrets. I pushed away the thoughts and focused on the road.

"We're close. We need to throw away all the evidence now." I told her her trying to hide my nervous self.
"It's raining. Should we find a dumpster or should I throw it now? " she asked whilst tying the plastic bag in knots. The bag only contained the map of the hall rooms of the party and emergency exits. But if Roan's men find out they would never consider giving Alexandra the chance to propose her deal or the chance for us to pass through the entrance.

"We don't have the time. I'll stop the car here." I looked through the rear view to see if anyone's tailing us.
I stopped the car in an empty road. The rain made the city clear up a little.
"Wait, I'll go and check if there's someone here." I looked at her and I could see that she trusts me now. Her eyes looked echoed serenity. She nodded.
I got out of the car and I felt like I could truly breathe again. It's been three months since she came back and I might've made peace with her return but the fact that she has lost everything we had and every emotion she felt for me still bothered me. I see no signs of her feeling anything but a sense of trust, at times. Maybe she cares for me too. But not like she used to. Not in the way I want her to.
