So this is for someone really close to me, Nico_Solace. It's her birthday today and I figured I'd give her a little gift. All of you out there better give her some love for me, and go follow her because she definitely deserves it. I debated for a long time whether to post this, but I figured why not? Enjoy, all!
NICKY: Have a great brithday!!!! Love you! Thank you so much for being such an amazing person and such an amazing friend. You are more amazing than you'll probably ever believe, and I hope your birthday is the most wonderful day ever.
~6:42 AM
It was cold outside that morning. Oh, I'd always hated the cold- unless I was allowed to make snow forts with it on days off. Then, the cold was welcome.
There was wind, too. It howled and nipped at my ankles and whipped my jacket and hair around my face. I'd never liked the wind. It make everything thoroughly unpleasant.
I stood there, still as a rock in wait of the bus, until my feet were numb and my nose felt like an ice cube.
My pocket vibrated, and I hurried to check my phone.
A simple text, saying,
Hey.
Simple, but not. 'Hey,' had too many different meanings for me to understand.
Hey, babe! How are you? What's going on?
The rumbling noise of the bus came down the corner and I put my phone away, rushing to get on the bus and receive the message that would make or break my day.
As I stepped into the warmth of the heated bus, my phone emanated a buzz from my pocket. The world slowly stopped spinning.
It was in my hands, fingers flashing over the screen in a hasty attempt to type my password before I had even sat down.
I'm good. :) You??
Time restarted. Everything was okay.

9:34 AM
I grabbed my phone out of my backpack when the bell rang, not even bothering to watch where I was going as I typed.
Sorry! I was in class. I'm back!
I bit my lip. Things had to be okay. They would be. Except I wasn't sure. And then came the buzz, and with it, it's time-stopping qualities.
Yay!! I missed you!
A heaved sigh of relief and I was off to my next class, tucking my phone back into my pocket. Things were alright.

12:56 PM
Lunch. My least favorite time of day. The cafeteria bustled with noise and cacophony, but I was watching a video on my phone. Waiting for an answer. For something. The world had stopped again, but only in my head. The video continued counting the seconds, the boys and girls in the rest of the food court laughed with their friends. I sat alone. Waiting.
Lunch at public school is horrible!! I had no service. Ugh.
I smiled widely. I wouldn't be alone after all. We texted throughout the rest of the lunch in blissful peace.

2:06 PM
My bag bounced against my back as I headed for the locker rooms. I was dreading practice. It was too long, too tiring, too... Everything.
Changing was a breeze. I'd been doing it for at least a year. I shoved everything in my locker, holding my phone in one hand and typing as if my life depended on it, trying to squeeze in one last response before practice began.
Practice now, got to go bye!
Without waiting to see the response, I ran out of the locker room with the rest of the team.

5:45 PM
Practice had ended. I once again stood in the cold, watching for the familiar car that was to take me home. Waiting, waiting, waiting.
My boredom brought me to pick up my phone and type another message.
Dude what's up???
I waited, once again with baited breath as the world's axis hung in the balance. The phone buzzed. My hand was there in an instant.
I'm not okay.
And the world fell off its axis and cracked the balance in half.

7:59 PM
The world had resumed spinning. Nothing was broken- we were okay. She was okay. That was all that mattered in the end. That was all that ever mattered in the first place.

So... yeah! I hope you liked it, Nicks! Happy birthday, dear! I can't hug you yet, but I promise I will one day! Sorry the fic wasn't very happy, or long, or anything. I wish you the best day ever!! :*Happy birthday!!
