 Chapter Six~The Voyage Home

Ally sat straight up, gazing at her father, wide-eyed.

“Is that all?”  she cried.

"What more do you want?”  Guy was purposely keeping her in suspense.

“Father.” Ally exclaimed indignantly.  “What happened when they jumped home?”

"Ohhh.”  Guy said, innocently. “You want to know if Nana’s family remembered her.”

"Yes, yes.  Go on. Tell.”

Guy checked his watch.  “It’s getting late, Ally.  I have to get up for work, even if you have no school tomorrow.”

“Aw.” Ally moaned.  “Alright.  I’m away to bed.”  She kissed her father and asked, “Tuck me in?”

"Of course.” replied Guy.

Guy took a shower and got ready for bed.  It had been a long, but fulfilling day.  His parents coming home from a time travel was such a wonderful treat and a relief.  He often wondered if the time would come when they would never return.  He didn’t want to think of that just now.  He needed to get some sleep.  He had a big day ahead of him.

Toweling himself dry, Guy put on a pair of flannel pajama bottoms and got into bed, turned out the light and quickly fell asleep.

The following morning at breakfast, Ally asked her father, “Daddy, why did Nana and Poppa name you Guy?”

Guy set down his coffee cup to contemplate his daughter’s question.

“It was Poppa’s idea. He said since he had to be Guy for a while, he learned to appreciate his ancestor and what it was like living in the 12th century.”

Ally wrinkled her nose and asked, “But wouldn’t he be sort of jealous that Nana was married to Guy?  I mean she had forgotten all about him when she lived in Sherwood Forest with Guy.”

“That’s true,” replied Guy, after wiping his mouth with his napkin.  “But when Poppa met Guy in the cave when Nana was dying, I think he sort of realized that Guy loved Nana as much as he did.  Poppa is a very generous man, Ally.  He wanted to honor his ancestor and his wife by giving me his name.  It  was after they returned home that Nana found out she was going to have a baby.”

Guy got up from the kitchen chair, kissed Ally on the cheek and put his jacket on.

“So what was it like when they got home?” Ally grasped her father’s hand to stop him from opening the back door.

Guy bent down and kissed Ally again.  “Let’s leave that for tonight, shall we?

“Aw, alright!   Ally exclaimed.  “Maybe I’ll call Nana and ask her myself.”

“No you don’t!  warned Guy.  “Or I’ll tan your hide for disturbing them.”

“Right, Dad.”  Ally said, sarcastically.  “Bye. Love you”

Guy’s voice was heard from a distance.  “Love you, too!”

Later that day Ally’s brother came home.  He had been down at the field kicking a football around with his friends.  Some of the girls from school were there, too.  Guy had a smile on his face when he sat next to Ally on the sofa.

So,”  began Ally.  “Was Marian there?”  She batted her eyes at her brother.

“Shut it, Ally.”  Guy said, playfully,  “or I’ll tickle you  to death.”
