A Big Deal

Percy's POV
She looked downright worried when I told her I'm dyslexic. Her eyebrows came together and she looked back down at her bell work paper. She kept sneaking glances at me with her storm-cloud gray eyes.

"Do I have food on my face?" I ask innocently.

She blushes. "No," her eyes go back down to her work and some of her blonde curls tumble over her shoulder.

She doesn't look at me again during that class, and I realize that I want her to. I fight the blush that's trying to sneak up on me.

Annabeth's POV
I rush out the door when the bell rings and beeline to my locker. Percy comes up behind me and watches me expectantly.

"Can I help you?" I wonder aloud.

"What's my next class?" He asks quietly, his schedule in hand. He's blushing! I smile and take the schedule from him.

"Oh! You have the same class as me next, it's American History. Follow me," I respond.

He trails along behind me, reminding me of a puppy. As we approach the door, he grabs my arm, stopping me.

Fireworks explode up and down my arm. My shocked gaze meets his. I know he felt it too.

"Is there an empty seat next to you in this class, too?" He tries to sound casual. I just nod.

"We're in tables for this class, and there's one left at mine. There's one other girl and one boy. Her name is Katie, and his is Travis,"

When I sit down, Katie raises an eyebrow at me. I roll my eyes at my best friend. Percy and Travis hit it off instantly. It kinda bugs me, them messing around while Katie and I try to learn.

"Percy?" Mr. James calls. The blood drains from Percy's face.

"Um... yes?"

"Being new does not make you exempt from learning. What is the answer to this question?" He asks, point to he board. Percy looks like he's going to pass out.

I surprise myself when I read it to him out of the corner of my mouth.

But I'm even more surprised when he gets the answer right, with a good amount of detail.

Travis smothers a laugh, having not heard me read it to him. It's a big deal to show up the teacher on your first day.
