The next morning when I woke up, I was surprised to find that both Nate and Mark were still fast asleep on the floor while the alarm clock on the bedside table next to me read 11:56 am. I sat up, shifting slightly in the sheets and groaning at the slight discomfort when I realized I had fallen asleep in my clothes. I also realized my head felt like it was being split open with a jackhammer, making me wince and hold my head in my hands. I didn't want to move, but strangely, at the same time, I wanted the other two men near me awake. This wasn't an issue though, for a couple minuets later, Nate grumbled softly under his breath, sitting up and combing down his messy black hair.
He then reached for his glasses that laid beside him, pushing them on and blinking up at me as I turned my head to look over at him. "What time is it?" He mumbled, eyes half lidded and groggy. "Almost noon." I answer, my voice slightly muffled by my arms as I returned to my previous position. "Mark," Nate called over and a soft thump was heard, making me look up with a raised eyebrow. "Son of a bitch." A gravelly voice rumbled out and I shivered slightly, realizing it was Mark. "Well, dumbass, you're not supposed to hit your head on the bed." Nate stood, stretching and yawning loudly.
"Five more minuets." Mark whined out loudly. I could sympathize with him. "You know as well as I do, we don't have a lot of down time. Get up, lazy ass."
"You try having your body harnessed as a power source for a damn robot that runs on 14,000 kilowatts a minuet for a whole damn month, then come talk to me." Was the sarcastic and snippety response that he got, making me chuckle softly. "Ladies, please." Mark's head appeared at the foot of the bed, his red floof sticking up everywhere, making him look like a pin cushion.
"What?" He grumbled. "It's the truth." He stood as well and it took all my will power not to stare as he yawned and stretched. "Is there any food?" He then asks, looking down at me. "I'm absolutely starving." I could understand that, seeing he probably hadn't ate in a month.
"M'sure Arin has something in the kitchen." I shrugged, flopping back down. "Have any headache relievers?" Nate asked, rubbing his temples. "God, I don't know, but I could go fer some." I covered my eyes with my arm, biting my lip.
"I'm going to get some food." Mark reports and I couldn't help but wonder how he wasn't hurting from yesterday, but when I lifted my arm to watch him leave, he moved stiffly, like he was sore. After the door to the bedroom was reclosed, Nate and I were silent until he cleared his throat. "So, did Mark explain everything to you last night?" I shrugged. "I mean, I think it was everything. But, you said something last night, about how he got promoted for his design for the bots." Nate nodded, sitting on the floor, his back pressed to the bed. "Yeah. Mark was like, the brain child for the entire development on the bots,"
"He's the reason they exist. But, he unknowing and unwillingly gave Google this huge marketing power, which could easily allow them to take over the world. I mean, consider it this way. Google is known as the only company to come out with functioning, working Personal Assistant bots. Only people in like, Japan, can say they've done that. This just seemed like the best marketing scheme to them." I looked up to Google, who had been powered down. "So, allowing root access on the bots could allow them to take complete control on your life?"
"That's a simple way to put it, yeah." I frowned. "You also said we don't have a lot of time. What do you mean by that?" Nate chuckled. "Sorry, don't mean to sound all mysterious or whatever. Basically, Google is going to be launching the bots to the public in a few days. Meaning we only have a few days to figure out how to shut down the entirety of the company and their mainframe."
"And whys that?"
"Well, think about it. The bots are programmed with the root access file slash microchip embedded in their hardware, meaning that's the first question the admin will be asked when the bot is first powered on. The new admins, unknowing to the consequence of agreeing to allow this, will accept. Argo, by the time the mistake is realized, it's too late. The only way to stop this is to shut down the company mainframe."
