Ch.1 Good morning

Maya Hart woke up to loud yelling and the smell of alcohol in her small and messy apartment.She slowly crept out of bed and peeked down the hall to see what all the fuss was about."I don't want your ass here",her mother,Katy yelled.Who could she be yelling at ,Maya thought to herself.

Suddenly the thought and possibility that it could be her father ran through her head.No way she told herself."I only came here to see my daughter,not you",a man hollered."It is my dad",Maya whispered excitedly to herself as she ran to the front room.

As she ran on the hardwood floor her socks caused her to slip,but luckily her father caught her.Maya silently looked into his blue eyes,not knowing what to say.It had been 10 years since he had left,but Maya never knew why.

Her father,Kermit could feel the tension in the atmosphere,so he pulled her into a tight hug.That hug said said a million words to Maya,much to Katy's dismay.Out of nowhere Katy threw a glass bottle at Kermit.Luckily it didn't hit him but the glass shards got everywhere, almost hitting Maya."Get out of my house you bastard", she yelled at the top of her lungs.Katy seemed to be losing her mind.

She was throwing anything in sight.She threw pots,pans,chairs,and even tried to throw a table."Mom please stop",Maya pleaded horrified of the situation.Kermit not knowing what to do, decided it was best for him to leave before Katy murdered him.He quickly whispered to Maya,"Meet me at your school short stack".Maya quickly nodded as she watched Kermit leave,hoping she would see him again.

Once he left Katy stopped yelling and throwing things.You would think Maya would be crying but she had gotten used to all of this and hadn't cried in 10 years.Maya slowly walked over to her mom and tried to hug her.Katy harshly pushed Maya back and screamed,"Get dressed,go to school,go to a store,stand at a corner I don't care but get out of my house"!

Maya heard these words a little too often and didn't feel the slightest hint of sadness.She could tell her mother was drunk and to Maya this was a normal morning.She walked to her room and quickly threw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.She checked the time and realized she was about 30 minutes late to school.She also checked her phone and realized she had a text from Lucas.

Lucas-Y are u late to school babe?

She ignored his text because she was never able to tell him about her problems.Mostly because she never felt too comfortable talking about them.She looked in the mirror one last time and sighed,"I look a mess"she whispered.Then she remembered her father wanted to meet her at school and she ran out the door and to the subway station.

As she was on the subway she thought of the horrible morning she had.The only good thing that had happened was seeing her dad.Then she decided not to get her hopes up about seeing him again.After all hope is for suckers she thought.Finally she reached her stop and got off of the subway.She sat outside of her high school waiting for him.Maya decided she wouldn't waste her time on him and he was probably at his house with some trick ass hoe.

She walked into school and into her 2nd period class.World cultures.As soon as she walked in her teacher,Mr.Matthews asked, Why are you so late Ms.Hart"?Maya ignored him and sat down in the back of the class."Ms.Hart"?"Yes sir",Maya mumbled?"Why are you late"?"None of your business,just be happy I'm here",Maya bellowed.

"I don't like your attitude,Ms.Hart"."And I don't like your class Mr.Matthews"!"Maya whatever is going on in you life,don't take it out on me",Mr.Matthews said kindly.Her boyfriend,Lucas who sat behind Maya placed a hand on her shoulder.As soon as he touched her all of her worries seemed to fade but it wasn't enough.Now don't get me wrong Lucas was your perfect boyfriend.

He was smart athletic and kind,he also understood Maya and she always felt safe around him.They had been together for 10 months now and Maya was very happy with him,but lately something felt empty.

Farkle her best friend from childhood suddenly raised his hand."Yes Farkle"?"Can Maya go for a walk to calm herself sir"?"Good idea Farkle",Mr.Matthews responded."Maya if you must, go ahead but be back in five",Mr.Matthews said kindly.With that Maya ran out of her seat and into the hall.Maya began walking down the hall until she reached the main office.

She has this urge to leave school and never come back.She looked outside and began thinking of her mother,her father and why she could never be happy.

She suddenly got a text on her phone from Lucas.

Lucas-Maya,are you coming back to class?

She ignored his text again because she just didn't feel like talking to anyone.She was about to walk out the door,and leave school when she felt a gentle hand on her shoulder.
