I'm such a Sam girl it's not even funny. you probably shouldn't be surprised if from here on out it's just 90% Sam honestly. anyways, this is a little non-hunter Sammy boyfriend AU for you guys. as always, enjoy!
You fight to suppress a giggle as you watch your boyfriend pace back and forth in front of his brother's car. The car he had insisted on borrowing because his was 'not presentable enough,' much to Dean's dissatisfaction. But Sam was dead set on the best and nothing but as he trampled back and forth. You had been waiting to leave your apartment building for - how long was it? Ten minutes now?
"Nope. No. We aren't leaving, this isn't happening, I'm not ready. We are not ready. What if they hate me, (y/n)? There's no way they're gonna like me. Oh my god, I'm not ready. How did this happen? Who planned this?" Sam runs his hands through his hair again and again as he frantically rambles. You can't help but laugh at how cute he is when he's nervous. It has got to be illegal for guys that tall to look that tiny and adorable. Illegal.
"Sam, stop it. My parents will love you, and even if it was possible to dislike you - which it's not, you're entirely and utterly likable, I will always love you. They aren't that bad anyways, I promise. Besides, you look very handsome," you compliment him, smiling as you look into his fearful eyes, and run your hands over his forearms and the soft fabric spread over them. It's not often you get to see him in anything other than plaid, and you were sure it had taken him at least an hour to dig up the plain, long-sleeved shirt he was wearing now. He manages a weak smile.
"Really? Are the jeans okay? I don't really own anything but these and my suits, but I don't want to be too dressy, but the jeans feel kinda too casual, don't they? I should change. I'll change," Sam's words slip out almost quicker than you can understand, and you can nearly hear the thoughts whirring in his brain even faster.
"Sam. Stop. The jeans will be just fine. We're just going to my house. Breathe, Sam," you remind him, taking a deep breath as an example and waiting for him to do the same. You gave him a nod of approval as he did so, and pulled him into your arms where he slumped against you.
"I'm nervous, (y/n)."
-----
"No way! Who knew you were such an exciting kid, (y/n)? Please, tell me another story, Mrs. (Y/L/N). That is one I will have to hold onto forever."
The good news: your mother and your boyfriend were getting along swimmingly. The bad news: the only topic of conversation all night between them had been embarrassing childhood stories of you - the time you tried to eat rocks, the time you were the lead in your elementary school play.... you shuddered, knowing your parents were at least taking enough pity on you to simply hit the tip of the iceberg. There were too many stories where those came from.
Your father cleared his throat and Sam almost instantly forgot his confidence, trying and failing to hide his deer-in-headlights look from you. You both knew that your dad would be the harder one to impress, and despite all your reassurances to Sam, you didn't want this night to go anything but smoothly and had infinite concerns. Your dad hadn't said much for most of dinner, and you were now finishing up your entrees. You felt almost as frightened as Sam looked, awaiting what your father was about to say. You reached for your boyfriend's hand under the table and gave it a squeeze.
"Well, son, why don't we talk about you? What do you do for a living? You do have a job, don't you?" Sam blushed, nodding quickly. This was a question he had prepped for. And by prepped for, you meant he had rehearsed differently worded responses in the bathroom before he thought you were awake in the early mornings.
"Yes, I do. I just graduated from Stanford university with a masters in law, actually, and I'm currently working with a law firm," he says, trying to muster up the pride he practiced in the mirror. Your father only tutted, and your heart sank for Sammy. The small sign of disapproval was nevertheless not a good sign.
"A lawyer, huh? Well? How do you like it?" This was not one Sam had prepared for. You could practically see him thinking, Is this a test? Is this a trick question? Is this a test? Is this a test? But you didn't have to wonder - it was. You shot your mom a look, begging her to intervene before Sam would say something too easy for your father to nitpick at.
"Yes, Sam, do you enjoy what you do? So long as you have fun," your mother doesn't bother to be discreet when she shoots a warning look at your father. He gives her an angry look right back, and your stomach starts some high class acrobatics.
"Yeah, I do. It's, uh... it's been a long-term dream of mine, actually. I always pictured myself here, but I never thought... I wasn't sure I could do it. And I definitely wouldn't have been able to without your daughter, I think," he's stuttering, but Sam is smiling, too. You give his hand another squeeze where you're still holding it under the table, beaming back at him. You didn't care if that answer was good enough for your dad, because it was music to your ears to hear Sam say he was happy and happy with you.
"Oh, I know that look. That's the look my parents told me they recognized in my eyes when they first saw me with your father. I know that look," it was your mother's turn to beam, but you could only blush. You turned to look at your plate in a quick embarrassment, but with a glance you can tell Sam doesn't take his gaze off of you. And now that your mother has pointed it out, you do see it in his eyes. You suddenly know what she was talking about all those years spent teasing you about finding "The One."
You look into his eyes to see love. And Sam doesn't let go of your hand all night.
yo yo yo I first off want to apologize for all my people with different parent situations than the stereotypical one shown here. I don't know how well it's even written because I've never lived that life but hey, that's why it's called an imagine, right? in other news, I bought the season 11 CD and dudes the four hours of behind the scenes extras are worth killing for, no joke. not to mention I can now watch Baby whenever I want and that makes me want to cry happy tears :,)
hope you all are doing well!
