Baseball

"Wow it's been a while since we did this." Carlisle remarked as we all walked out into the clearing.

"Well we're just lucky that it happened to be a perfect time for it." Alice said as she pointed at the thunderstorm over town.

As we walked forward I couldn't help but think about how the last time I was here to watch them play baseball was so long ago but it felt like yesterday.

"You gonna play this time, Bella?" Emmett asked excitedly.

"I doubt it." I said.

"Why!?" He whined. "You are perfectly able to play sports now! You can run without injuring yourself or others!"

The truth was I was still afraid I was going to make a fool of my self and Emmett would make jokes about me being the only clumsy vampire in existence.

Edward squeezed my hand having heard that in my mind. I almost forgot that my shield was up around us and my mental shield was still down. It's become so easy to control it, almost instinct now.

He leaned close and whispered in my ear. "You'll do fine. Just try to relax and enjoy yourself. That's what we're supposed to be doing. Having fun." He kissed my head.

You promise you won't let me look stupid? I thought.

"I promise." He breathed.

We had our conversation almost private.

All the other's could hear was Edward's responses.

"I love the clothes that Alice forced you into by the way. Very sexy." He added not trying to be quiet about it.

I ducked my head down in embarrassment.

Alice had put me in tight fitting baseball pants (at least she called them that, they were more like a second skin), tall socks that came over my calves, and she forced my hair into a pony tail and pulled in through the back of the baseball cap I was now wearing which belonged to Edward.

And I chose to wear the baseball shirt Charlie got me when I went to a game with him while I was still human. It made my feel more at home.

More human. More normal

Jacob and Renesmee walked over and sat down on the sideline of the field. They'd said they just wanted to watch.  

Zander stood on the same side they sat on, he didn't want to play either.

"Okay! How do we decide teams?" Alice asked.

"We could pick captains?" Raven suggested.

"I'll choose." Zander said. We looked over at him.

"The captains will be... Jasper and...-"

"Wait!" Emmett yelled.

"What?"

"The teams won't be even numbered." He whined.

"Esme would you be willing to play?" Zander asked. "I can take your place as ref."

"Sure. I don't mind. " She said walking from her place at home plate to stand next to Carlisle.

"Alright. Better?" Zander asked Emmett.

"Yes. Proceed." Emmett said satisfied.

"As I was saying. The captains will be Jasper and... Bella." He then motioned for us to start choosing.

Everyone else walked over and stood in front of us.

I looked over at Jasper.

"Ladies first." He grinned at me.
