Going Back

Chapter 2

 “So Bell, what do you think about starting high school for the second time?” Emmett asked from the couch. The incident earlier almost forgiven.

Carlisle was in his study, Esme was tending to her garden outside. Jasper and Alice had left with Jake and Renesmee on a hunting trip an hour ago. So Emmett and Rosalie were sitting next to each other on the couch while I sat in Edward’s lap in the love seat.

Emmett must have heard what Edward and I had just been discussing the fact that we were going back to high school.

“I don’t know Em, I mean of course it’s going to be easy, what with the photographic memory in all but I’m just nervous that people won’t take well to Renesmee.” I said, repeating the fear I had just told to Edward moments ago.

“Oh, come on! Everyone loves Nessie!” He argued.

“Your right Emmett but these will be the first human’s that don’t know what she is or were she’s come from.” I said worried.

“Bella, love.” Edward said getting my attention. “How many times do I have to tell you, you’re over thinking it too much? We’re going to start school tomorrow and everyone is going to love Nessie. Then we’ll have nothing to worry about.” He said stroking my hair.

Emmett was about to give his two cents again but Rosalie grabbed his arm and started pulling him to the garage saying something about the others coming back soon and wanting to work on her car. He agreed and stood up but before he left he look at Edward. “Oh and I would be worried if I were you Eddie.” He said smiling in a malicious way that made me think he was trying to get even at Edward for something. “Think about how any guys you’re going to have to fight off Nessie. Jacob’s going to have some competition on his hands.” He said, laughing darkly as he closed the garage door.

Edward’s body went stiff. When I turned to look at him his face was masked with an emotion I hadn’t seen before.

“Edward, you know better than to let Emmett get to you, I know just as well as your mind reading does that he was getting back at you for something.” I said cupping his cheek in my hand as I stared into his eyes.

He sighed and leaned in face into my hand. “I know but it bothers me because it’s true. Think about how beautiful she is in comparison to all of the human girls she’s going to put to shame.” He said seriously. Then his face turned soft. “I know of only one human girl whose beauty will never be put to shame.”

“I still think that the guys that had liked me in high school were just nuts. And because we were destined to be together you miraculously found me attractive too.” I said teasing lightly.

He sighed and looked at me, “looks like we’re going to have to use some old tactics.” Then his eyes darkened as he leaned in close and kissed my forehead. Then his lips were at my ear, “Do you really think that was the only reason that you are attractive to me?”

Then he was sucking my neck, making my head fall back. “That this perfectly smooth skin was me being biased in my opinion?” He asked.

Then he was holding my face looking into my eyes, “And these eyes that I could fall into forever, there depths used to pull me into those chocolate pools that were warm and wide.” He whispered.

Then he leaned his face closer to mine, our lips were half a centimeter from touching. “And this passion, those red lips, that I’d day dreamed about for months. Waiting for the right moment, I could do this…” Then faster than I could follow, his lips were fierce against mine and he had one hand in my hair and the other was running down my back.

Edward kissed me in a way that if I was human I would have died.

He pulled back.

“And the look of love in your eyes, when you talk of me or our daughter… amazing. I get stunned into silence. I get dazzled.”

I was so moved by his words that I said the one thing that summed up everything I was thinking.

“I love you so much.” I whispered pulling him closer and snuggling into his chest.

He stroked my hair again as he kissed my head. “I love you too, my Bella. More than you could ever know.”

We sat there in silence for a long time. Then I remembered that the others would be returning soon.

As soon as this realization came to me the back door flew open and in came Alice, Jasper, and my daughter all coming into the living room and sitting across from us on the couches. “Evening mom, dad. How was your day?” Nessie asked politely, too formal.

“What did you do?” I asked her.

She gave me a puzzled look.

“What do you mean?”

“Why are you talking like your father does when he did something he knows he’s not supposed to?” I asked. Alice and Edward both laughed. Edward tugged lightly on a lock of my hair to show his amusement.

“Oh my gosh, he totally does! Gosh, Ness, your almost a bad a liar as your mother!”

Then Jasper laughed.

“Well… I made a bet with uncle Jasper and Uncle Emmett…” She started.

“Jasper, why are you gambling with my daughter?”

“In my defense, Emmett was the one to propose it, I just caught on the end of it.” He smiled.

“Thanks Bro knew I could count on you.” I laughed.

Jasper’s grin widened, “Why, your welcome sis.” He drawled.

I stuck my tongue out at him and he and Alice laughed as they left the room.

“So… What’s the bet?” I asked.

“Well… The bet was… That Jake had to take me out… on my first date… Which he was already planning to do… But uncle Emmett bet him that he couldn’t face dad and ask him.” She explained.

I couldn’t hold in the snicker that I let out. This was too good. Jacob was afraid of Edward.

“If the dog wants to take you on a date he has to talk to me and your mother.” Edward stated.

Nessie looked relieved and settled into the couch.

“So dad, would you be willing to share mom anytime soon? I would like to give her a hug.” She asked looking amused by our proximity.

I had a since of history repeating as Edward held me closer to his chest and buried his face in my hair. “I’m sorry but I don’t think I have enough to share.”

Feeling devious I flashed to Renesmee’s side leaving Edward alone on the loveseat. “Hey!” He complained.

I looked back at him innocently, “What?”

I leaned over and gave my daughter a big hug. When I released her she smiled.

“Any-who! I’ve got to go meet Jake at the border. Love you guys!” She said as she flashed out the front door. Leaving me to deal with Edward.

Suddenly arms were around me. “That was very rude. Leaving me like that. It deserves… punishment.” He whispered.

I felt my body heat up. “Mmmmm… Can’t wait.”
