It was raining.

Maybe snowing.

I couldn't tell, I was cold and wet either way.

My fingers were frozen and numb, my nose and ears stinging. I watched as my breath came out in white puffs. My blue toes curled in, trying to get warm and I set my head against the brick wall I was against as I hugged my knees to my chest with a pained whine.

Yeah, it was definitely snowing.

Drops of the frozen water landed and melted on my cheeks.

I sneezed.

It was dark out.

Night.

The only light was a lamp post across my alleyway, duly lighting it up.

I shut my eyes.

My head feeling light, to light. My stomach curled.

Then it grew darker in my closed lids and I peeked my eyes open drooply. Someone was standing in the lamp light, hiding my body in its shadow.

I shut my eyes.

I sighed.

That's all I remembered.

I woke up in a bed, my body tingling from the immense warmth.

Looking around, I could tell I was in a large room. Dull blue curtains blocked a silver light, illuminating the walls in their cherry red code. That was all I saw before a voice made me bolt up from the warm bed.

“You're finally awake.”

It was a male voice, deep and gravely.

My head turned in the direction of the stone voice and I saw a man sitting in a chair in the corner of the room. He looking up at me from a book he must have been reading. His leg was crossed over his knee and a lamp on a small side table illuminated his face.

I studied him as he closed his book, in crossing his legs and leaning forward, lacing his fingers together under his chin. Square jaw, strict eyes, thin lips, looked like he had a light beard.

One word described this man in full as he walked towards me.

Military.

He stopped right next to the bed and he stared down at me.

I didn't dare move a muscle. I usually got hit that way.

“Finally.”

Finally?

He smirked, I could make it out in the little light. “You know how long you've been out?”

I shook my head, my hair making a weird scratching noise against the pillow.

Of course I didn't know.

He laughed. It sounded kind of nice. “Two days, little one.”

I felt my eyes grow big. Two days? But I wasn't surprised about that. I've been in that ally for a little less than a week.

My eyes flew to the corner and i felt them narrow. I huffed.

He crossed his arms at that and I felt his gaze like a rock grinding on paper. “What was that?”
