"You've got these little things that you've been running from. You either love them or I guess you don't. You're such a pretty thing to be running from anyone, a vision with nowhere to go." Ready To Go (Get Me Out Of My Mind) by Panic! At The Disco

"Nao is your name?" Sugawara smiled over the rim of his coffee cup and Oikawa nodded, offering his own smile.
"Daichi, here, helped me while I was having some trouble. To think that I would meet my savior once more." He patted Daichi's shoulder who only shrugged it off with a laugh. "Oh, and it was Iwaizumi's car. So, I also thank him." He looked over at Iwaizumi whose gaze met his, only to wander over to the window. But he noticed. He noticed Iwaizumi watching his reflection and he gave a little wink.
He saw Iwaizumi's eyes widen and he had to hold back a chuckle. Sulking pouting faces didn't suit the man. Or it didn't suit his image. Whichever it was, he gave his attention back to the other two who were laughing at the same scene.
They seemed fairly close and waves of loneliness washed up on Oikawa. He longed for a part in it. But he could never. At some point, Kenma, Hinata and Kageyama would have to go too. Despite his annoyance with them sometimes, they never really had much dull moments. It kept his mind off of what was happening and he felt genuinely happy. Something that cheap thrills and things not much would dare to do didn't offer that anymore. He was tired of having to look over his shoulder. He wondered why he even started in the first place. Things were bad then but they didn't have to go this far. There were other ways.
He was thinking too much again. They were watching him. He put his coffee cup up to his lips before he started thinking and it stayed there. Maybe that's why. His hand started a light shaking so he set the cup down on the table and cleared his throat. "So, uh, how do you all know each other?"
"We work at the same company," Sugawara spoke quickly before the other two could. Daichi nodded in agreement and Iwaizumi just looked back out the window.
"And you're all on a... business trip then?"
Daichi laughed. "Yes, of the sort."
"So what I'm hearing is that it's more of a vacation than anything," Oikawa laughed.
And Iwaizumi finally spoke.
"Yeah, Daichi. Didn't you know? All play and no work makes Jack a dull boy."
The two stared at each other. The tension that was felt between them when they first arrived flared back up. Sugawara was ready to pick up the butterknife next to his plate and slice it up to put it on his breakfast sandwich. He just shook Daichi and threw an arm around him. He turned to Oikawa and laughed.
"Iwaizumi is quite the serious type. Work is handled with seriousness."
"Mmm, I can tell."
Oikawa and Sugawara were smiling at each other and the world just seemed right. The tension slowly eased and the chitchat from earlier returned. Iwaizumi was still sulking but Daichi and Sugawara, having spent lots of time with him were used to this sort of thing.
"How long do you plan to be here?" He didn't ask for the sake of conversation. He wanted to "accidently" bump into the unusual trio possibly frequently.
"Not long," Daichi answered, "perhaps two weeks. Give it take a few days."
Two weeks. The amount of time he would also remain here.
"Cool, about the same here."
"What brought you here? We never asked," Sugawara said.
Oikawa stilled. He was a good liar. He was good with coming up with things in the spot but he kept going back to what he's done. The silence was there for a stretch of time and Sugawara noticed while Daichi and Iwaizumi waited.
"Sorry, you don't have to tell us if it's personal."
"No, no. It's fine... Let's just say that I had no idea and now I'm in a slow pace road trip with my not-hitchhikers. Or maybe they are."
Iwaizumi's ears perked. Last he heard of, Oikawa had abondened his car. And the people he stole something from had top notch, state of the art security. Could it be that he was actually working with others? Was that why he seemingly appeared out of nowhere and disappeared into thin air? So, out of the sake for the job, he asked. "Hey, where did you even pick them up?"
The question shocked both Daichi and Sugawara but with one look at Iwaizumi, they understood and they listened closely.
"I don't know exaclty, it was a bad day and the one day I stopped, they hopped into my car and I just went with it." He shrugged his shoulders, just mixing some truth with lies. "Let me tell you though, they are some strange characters."
There was a small pause as he chewed on his food.
"Did you know, wait, of course you don't. You haven't been traveling with us. My mistake. What I wanted to say is that they also have their own schedule that I don't get. Anyway, they normally do their own thing, pay their own bills and such. I don't know how they even had that much money..." Oikawa babbled on and the other three glanced at each other.
Could it be that Oikawa had others with him? Was he some miles away from where they sat, maybe minutes?
Iwaizumi almost stood up and shouted. Had this man no sense of security and safety at all? Was he that much of a carefree idiot that spent too much time with his head up in the clouds? Why would he trust some strangers so damn easily?
Sugawara sensed the frustration of not being able to berate the man so he took it upon himself to ask the questions he couldn't without yelling.
"No offense, Nao, but why would you just go with it? They could be horrible people, you know?"
Oikawa almost snorted. Them? Horrible people? He thought not. Annoying was more like it. But he shruged and finished his food.
"You should really be more careful with your decisions." Iwaizumi spoke up and his gaze met Oikawa's.
Yeah.
"I should, shouldn't I?"
Too late for that.
"Well," he stood, "thank you for talking to me but I'll be going now."
Not yet, he didn't want to leave yet. His body moved on it's own accord. He could not sit still for long. Would he even be here for two weeks?
The three men watched as he crossed to the counter to pay for his food and coffee. When he made their way past them to exit, Iwaizumi's arm flung out and grabbed a hold of his wrist. Both guys observed each other. Oikawa somehow felt his uneasiness grow underneath the inspecting and intense eyes of Iwaizumi. Where was the sulky boy?
"Uhm..." Oikawa broke the silence and the gaze. Iwaizumi let go of his wrist, wondering what had even made him do so.
Sugawara quickly took the opportunity that he knew Iwaizumi was going for before he didn't.
"What he wanted to ask was if you and these other guys wanted to go out for drinks later tonight."
Oikawa pondered it for a moment. Were they even allowed to drink legally? However, he was overjoyed. He didn't want to leave now but he could see them later tonight. It was perfect. He nodded his head and Daichi told him about a bar he saw on the way here. They would meet at 8.
He practically floated all the way to his car. He could get used to friends of his own age and not just small talk and sex. The basic thought of a child before puberty hit. With a simple mind. Things were more complicated than that in his life, however.
Before he left, he gave each of them a smile. The sun decided to show from undearneath the clouds. And Iwaizumi had shocked himself from what he thought at that moment as he watched him drift to his car.
He was blessed with looks.
