I woke up with a jolt feeling my chest ache with pain, my head spinning as I attempted to look up. Falling back on the bed I waited until it passed. "My lady." A voice called from outside my door. "Yes Airavata." I groaned holding my head tightly. "We need to prepare your wardrobe for the ceremony after today's events. Your father wants you to get married as soon as possible, and he does not take kindly to waiting." He said looking down at his papers. "We have several dresses for you to try on-"
"No dresses!" I yelled throwing a pillow out the door. "If you let me finish- and some other apparel choices. Although you know your dad is going to make you wear a dress right." He sighed as I got up from my bed walking over to the mirror. "Unless they make an combat ready dress I am going to fight him tooth and nail." I warned before suddenly gasping at the mirror as something black flashed in my eye. "My lady what is wrong!" Airavata yelled running in without a second thought. "Ah get out!" I yelled quickly trying to cover my underwear as he flushed a deep red. "I am so sorry my lady, I was just worried!" He apologized looking the other way covering his face with his hands. I looked in the mirror again only to find normal colored blue eyes. "Nothing it must have been my shadow." I mumbled making him snicker. "My lady, afraid of her shadow?" He mused before I threw another pillow at him. "Well just hurry up, your father isn't really known for his patience."
"I know I will try to hurry." I continued to look for the black I had seen in my eye only to give up. "Maybe it really was just my shadow..." But I couldn't help but worry over it. Throwing on my clothes I walked out to a smiling Airavata. "Good you're ready, lets hurry and make our way to the coliseum."
On our way there I saw Masrur standing outside with Ariyday. Getting excited I ran at him jumping up expecting to take him by surprise, but instead he caught me. Swinging me around he set me down with a small smile before petting my head. "Careful about your PDA." Ariday chuckled with his arms crossed. "I know, but its hard to retain my excitement!" I exclaimed throwing up my hands.
"Yes, but not all are approving." Airavata said glancing up at a familiar rival.
Yorio who made their way to us with a stern, spiteful glare. "I hope you are ready to lose today." Yorio threatened with a low hiss. "The winner is not decided yet, don't count your bodies before they are slain." Ariyday spat.
"Awe did I say the kitty could speak?" Yorio said snidely scrunching his face as Ariyday began to growl making a equally mean face. "Enough all of you!" The king yelled catching all of our attention. "Those who are competing go to your designated areas, those who are to watch go now!" Quickly we all dispersed, but not before Yorio bumped into my shoulder roughly. "Hey watch it!" I yelled as Masrur walked up beside me putting a hand on my shoulder leaning down to my ear. "I love you." Just hearing him whisper those words sent shivers down my spine. Smiling he slowly made his way back to the coliseum. I grinned like a dork for a moment before feeling a strike of pain in my head. "I thought that had gone away already."
Walking to the balcony over the arena I held my head still feeling a sharp pain in my temple. Why was this headache persisting, it was only bound to get worse in a loud area like this. After moments of waiting for the final people to shuffle into their seats my father took my hand, raising up to the edge. "We are all gathered here today to witness the final battle between our two champions! Masrur from the West and our own Yorio." The crowd cheered loudly causing me to wince as Yorio looked up at me with a sly smirk before turning his attention back to Masrur. "The winner shall be granted my lovely daughters hand and the future as the king of this land. May only the strongest win!" He yelled throwing up his sword and my hand. Sitting back down we watched as Masrur rolled his shoulder and Yorio draw his sword.
"You think a beast like you can love someone like her?" Yorio taunted trying to anger Masrur only to have him brush it off. "Tch, I have loved her since we were children! You don't know the kind of feelings I harbor for her!" He continued, his face reddening in rage. "Sounds more like you are jealous. People only feel jealous when they know that they are inadequate or know something isn't there's." Masrur said bluntly dropping his arms, rolling his head around to give him a sharp glare. "Territorial is when you already have the person." With a sudden flash Masrur threw a punch that was barely dodged by Yorio. "Understand that I know that I am a beast, but you are something far worse." He growled throwing his leg underneath Yorio sending him to the ground with a hard thud. Yorio gasped out as the wind knocked from his lungs, quickly he flipped back holding his stomach. Gasping for breath, drool traced the side of his lip as he struggled to stand.
"Yorio may have top training in sword play, but he is out classed royally in raw strength." My father said chuckling to himself as he watched. "Its like watching a lion chase a fox by its tail."
"Yes, but foxes are sly and cunning." I mumbled as I watched him hold his breath for a moment before letting out a sigh.
Yorio stumbled forward swiping his blade at Masrur before throwing knives at his feet where he dodged. A few clipping his feet, but Masrur quickly retaliated with kicks. Throwing himself back, Yorio grabbed a needle from within his sleeve catching Masrur across the cheek. "You're lucky that isn't laced with poison." Yorio chuckled thinking that he would have had the advantage if he had done so.
"Tricks will not win you this fight." Masrur warned wiping the blood from his cheek before glancing at me. Noticing this Yorio growled lunging at him again, but it was a severely wrong move. Masrur parried to the side giving Yorio a opening to his chest. Just as Yorio was about to take the opportunity, Masrur juked him kneeing Yorio in the mid section of his torso. It was a devastating blow. Stumbling backwards coughing, Yorio retracted gripping his sword tightly in his palm. The blade of the sword slowly corrupt into a pitch black. It was like the silver of the blade was being peeled away by black shadows. Yorio's hand gripped it as Masrur rose an eyebrow. "I knew it, you have a Dark Metal Vessel."
"I had no other choice..." Yorio quivered as his hair covered his eyes. "I knew she would find someone more powerful, but I couldn't get any stronger."
"So you sold yourself to the darkness?"
"I would do anything for her to love me, even if it means that I would have to sell my soul."
"Winning this competition isn't going to win her heart. You know that don't you." Masrur mumbled watching as tears rolled down Yorio's face.
"I don't care, at least she will be mine!" He yelled lifting up the soiled blade, ready to stab himself. Before the blade could make contact Masrur used his intense speed to swiftly punch him in the gut to paralyze him. Throwing himself forward, Yorio choked out before dropping his sword with a clatter. The crowd cheered out loudly as my father made his way down with me to the arena's ground level. As soon as I touched the ground I felt a sudden strike to my temple.
Reaching down my father helped up Yorio to stand. Yorio held a angry expression with blood trialing down the side of his lip before glancing at me. Suddenly everything became pitch black in my vision. I fell to the ground gasping out as the pain in my head took over. "Balendin are you alright!?" My father called as I rose up slowly, my hand grasping Yorio's blade before suddenly stabbing forward.
"LADY BALENDIN!" I heard Airavata and Airyday call out to me almost in a hollow tone, as if they were fading away.
