The gym was really nice. It was newly renovated so it was all fresh and new. There were barely any people there, only a guy hitting a punching bag, a girl on the treadmill and another guy on one of the machines. I left the dressingroom with my hair tied up in a bun and went straight to one of the treadmill to warm up. With the headphones in and music playing in my ears I ran for about forty-five minutes until I felt my body was ready for the actual workout. I grab the tape I put on the floor next too the treadmill as I was running, and started putting it on my knuckles and over my hands. I often didn’t use gloves, though it’s always recommended, as I think it's more enjoyable without. It feels more raw and real. I pulled of my sweater and threw it and the tape on the floor next to a punching bag. My neck creaked when I stretched out my feet and started jumping on my toes.
The first punch was quick. The next one came fast after the first one but with much more force. The punchingbag started swinging and I bounced around it on light feet. My body threw the punches with such finesse turning my body the right way as my right hand hit the bag. An hour went by with me throwing punches at the bag and I now felt the familiar burn in my muscles and the sweat was running down my face. A slight tap on my shoulder made me turn around fast nearly strucking the person behind.
“Woah, easy cowboy,” the guy said. I recognized him from the punchinbag a few meters away. With sweaty hands I removed the headphones I wore to see what he wanted.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to hit you. Was just so into it,” I said out of breath.
“I can tell,” the guy said with a smile. “I saw you from my spot down there and thought that ‘hey, that girl is really good and seems very strong.’ So I thought I’d ask you if you’d maybe want to work out with me sometime? Maybe meet eachother in the ring or something.”
“Sure,” I said without hesitating. “That’d be fun.”
“Good. My name is Mike, by the way,” he said offering me his hand.
“Lily.” I shook his hand with a smile before letting it go, noticing the wedding ring on his finger.
“Lovely. Well, I’ll see you around Lily,” Mike said before turning around to leave the gym. I took this as a sign to round off so I grabbed a yoga mat and chosed a calm corner of the gym to stretch. In my opinion, it’s important to keep your flexibility if you want to be a good fighter. You’re far too vulnerable if you’re all stiff trying to defend yourself.
Before I knew it I had been at the gym for two hours and my mother had left me multiple messages wondering where I was. I decided it was time for me to leave the gym. As I exited the door, I pulled out my phone to call my mom.
“Lily! Where are you? You got me worried sick!”
“Calm down mama. I was just at the gym, y’know the one we walked by earlier? I’ve just been working out, that’s all,” I chuckled.
“At least text me next time, okay? My heart can only take to much. I thought – I thought something had happened to you. Something bad…”
“Mama, It’s okay. I’m okay. Nothing like that is ever going to happen again. Not here, not ever. Okay? I’ll be home in ten. I love you.”
“I know honey. I love you too. Dinner will be ready when you get home.”
On my way home I thought about what Perrie said about the show. Maybe I should perform? Since this is a new start, why not start it by doing something I love again? Then I just shook my head. No. Never in a million years. It’s too painful. I decided to just go home and not think about it anymore.
The morning after, I woke up by the alarm clock’s ringing effect. It was the second day in this new school and I’d already made new friends. That’s impressive to be me. Mom said the night before that she could give me a ride today, if I promised to hurry up so I got out of bed and went straight to the bathroom to take a shower and wash my face. Once that was done I went to my dresser to pull out something to wear. Not caring so much about the clothes I wore, I chose a pair of black skinny jeans, a black tank top, a hoodie in a dark plum color, a pair of black vans with studs on the sides and a navy blue knitted beanie with a pom pom. Before putting on the hat, I put my (now dry) brown hair in a messy side braid letting it fall over my left shoulder. To spice it up a bit, I put on my skull-earings in a golden color and a black cross ring and a goldcolored ring with a black triangle. The make-up was simple, only black cat eyeliner and mascara that highlighted my ice blue eyes. Grabbing my beige backpack I left the room to greet my mom downstairs.
