“Are you nervous?” Zayn’s voice asked through the phone.
“No. Kinda… Yeah,” I huffed. I was still picking out my outfit for the evening when Zayn called to talk.
“When will you be there?” I asked as I picked up a sweater from the floor eyeing it before I threw it away again when deciding to wear my batman t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans instead.
“Half past seven I think. We need to get good seats and they open the doors around eight,” Zayn said.
“Half past seven? That early?” I asked with raised eyebrows. I didn’t think they would come that early. I mean, it’s just a show, isn’t it?
“Oh, you have no idea how big this show is. Almost all of campus will come, and plenty of people that doesn’t go to our school.”
“Oh…” I said in a low voice, feeling my courage crawl in under the bed.
“But don’t worry, they’ll love you!” He sounded happy about the whole show thing, though I couldn’t figure out why. I was still as terrified as earlier.
“D’you wanna grab something to eat before the show?” Zayn said. “Just you and me, if you want too.”
“I’d love that. Don’t know if I have time though. I need to be there around six for soundcheck and other things, so I was just planning on grabbing something at home before leaving,” I said with a sigh.
“I can come pick you up and then we can grab something to eat on the way, if you want to?” Zayn said casually.
“You’d do that?” I said happily a smile crept on to my face.
“Of course I would! Now is the first time we live in the same town since forever, and I want to see you,” Zayn said matter of factly as if it was obvious. “And we’ve barely talked this week exept for over the phone.”
“I know... Soon I will only study music though, and I’ll have more time for you and the others, I promise!” I said confident. I had to make more time for my friends, no more excuses.
“Hold on,” Zayn said as he turned to talk to someone in the background. “When can I pick you up?”
“Five fifteen maybe?” I said, I really needed to shower first.
“Sure, I’ll call you when I’m almost there. Bye love,” Zayn said before hanging up.
I connected my phone to my speakers and put on some music and turned the volume up before I made my way to the bathroom. Once I stepped inside the bathroom I shimmied out of my sweatpants and sweater and put them in the basket with all the other dirty clothes as The Mowgli’s played through the speakers. Reaching in to the shower with one hand I turned the water on letting it turn warm before I stepped inside. Water washed down over my shoulders and took away some of the nervousness making me realx under the shower nozzle. I hummed content as the water washed over my hair making it wet before I grabbed my shampoo with the scent of vanilla. With my fingertips I massaged it into my skull, making it lather up. After rinsing my hair, I grabbed the conditioner with the same scent and spread it through my ends.
The warm fuzzy white towel I wrapped around me kept me warm as I dried my hair with the hair dryer and starting to put it in a messy fishbone braid with a little white bow at the end. Still wearing only the towel I started to put on make up, going for a simple look. When I was done with the make up and examined my face, I left the bathroom to put on my clothes. The batman t-shirt and the blue jeans was still in a pile on the bed but I couldn’t care less about wrinkles right now. Once dressed I finished off with a couple of black bracelets, an Arctic Monkeys beanie, a pair of black boots with a floral print on the inside and my navy blue jacket before heading downstairs. A quick glance at the clock told me Zayn should be here in about five minutes. Mama wasn’t home, as always, but I didn’t mind that much. She had to work to keep our economy stable, and the job she had made her work at dificult times, but she loved her job and I wasn’t one to take that away from her. The phone in my backpocket started vibrating signaling that someone was calling. I pulled it up and checked the caller I.D.
