He couldn't wait till health. It was so unlike him to not pay attention to the teacher. At his old school his friends joked he was a goody-two-shoe, he just liked to call it being respectful. These teachers went through the tortuous lengths to give the knowledge that they were graced upon and pass it on to the next generation. Great, now I sound like the nerd everyone teased about, he thought grimly.
Alec never liked his old school. Everything was predictable, there was no individuality. He had always been the one in the background. Sure, he was the captain of the soccer team, and was apparently "the best ever seen in the school's history" but outside the field, he was a nobody. He deliberately stayed outside the jock group, and blended with the crown. There were girls who liked him, but he always turned them down, and never looked at it like an "ego-booster". After all, his mom taught him better than that. He was polite and respectful.
Well not now, ignoring the teacher and all. He just couldn't wait till history. He didn't know why, but he felt that he'd be able to get to know Melody like that. He knew she needed help. It took no genius to know what was going on at her house, which was what puzzled him the most. How did no one know? He doubted she ever contacted the police, but why? And then there was her step-brother, what could have possibly gone down between them? Why would she keep this a secret? But most importantly, how long has this been going on? It scared him to think she was dealing with this by herself. He was always one to steer clear of trouble, but usually the trouble people now got into was self initiated, agitating someone else to the brink, and he doubted Melody did any of that. She seemed too innocent to deserve abuse.
Abuse.
The words seemed to finally register in his mind. And with that he wanted to help her, but first, he needed her trust, and get to know her.
Man, now I really can't wait till health.

She didn't know why her eyes kept glancing at the clock, why her fingers kept tapping at her desk. Her teacher had repetitively asked her, no demand her, to stop the "disturbing ruckus" but her couldn't stop her hands. She was impatient, but impatient for what, she had no idea. It was fifth period, two more classes to go till school was out. But she knew that wasn't why she was so antsy, she hated the end of school, because that meant the beginning of home. And she hated the beginning of home.
"Melody, one more time and you're going to the principal's office, and I mean it this time," her teacher barked. The threat might have not seemed particularly bad, but this teacher never sent kids to the principal’s office, or gave out detentions. But it would be no surprise if Melody was the first.
Though, thinking about it, Melody liked the principal. She was a nice lady who actually seemed to side with her for once. She'd gone a couple of times for stupid reason, and rather than suspending her, or giving an office detention, she sympathized with her and talked to the teachers, telling them not to send a child to her office unless it actually was a bad thing. After that, she heard one of the teachers call her a "thing".
Melody stopped her fingers at once, seeing the amused glances from her classmates. This was how the day usually went, the teachers singling her out, and everyone finding it amusing. She was used to it now. She just mumbled a "sorry" or "okay" and kept her face down. She'd managed to stop turning into a tomato.
