Melody let out a breath as she quietly slid into her seat. It seemed as if time was with her, for the bell rang, signaling class. She knew the teacher disliked her, and if she had been a second late, to the principal’s office she goes. She looked around the class, not seeing her teachers. She dropped her head onto her desk and let out another breath, this time a little louder. Closing her eyes, a clear picture of Alec flashed into her head. The look in his eyes, every movement he made, the smile on his face as she came to talk to him. She became worried as these images continued to course through her mind. All her life she'd tried to live a low life, or as low as she could. She'd occasionally run into the "popular" group, and have to face their bullying, but nothing that she couldn't take. In fact, most people though she was strong for not breaking under Clarissa's wrath, but little did they know, that one flick of the wrist from Rick, and she'd be bawling her eyes out in her room.

"Alright class, take out your books and begin doing page 568, no talking or I'll give you a detention, and Melody, actually do some work or I'll have no problem failing you from the class," Mrs. Howard said giving her a pointed glare. Melody shrunk into her chair even more. She nodded her head in acknowledgement, and quickly opened the Pre-Cal book, her head already hurting from looking at the words. Everything just floated around, and she always had to read the numbers five times to make sure she was reading it right. She hated how Mrs. Howard picked on her. She tried her hardest to do good, she really did. But she could never learn the concepts, not just in math, but every subject, and she hated that she was constantly targeted. Could they not see her effort?

"I'm so sorry I'm late Mrs. Howard, I got stuck in the bathroom with girl problems," Clarissa announced practically to the whole class. Melody rolled her eyes. That excuse had been played so many times throughout the years, she was shocked the teachers still bought it. Mrs. Howard's eyes immediately softened.

"It's alright sweetie, just find a seat and work on page 568 out of the text book."

"Oh thank you so much for understanding!" Clarissa beamed, shooting a sly look at Melody. She loved the power she had over the girl. Everyone seemed to think Melody was some freak of nature, which made Clarissa's job so much easier.

Melody's cheeks burned as she saw the look Clarissa shot her. Never in her life had she ever done something wrong to her. It just seemed as if the whole world hated her, wanted the destroy her. Well, maybe Alec doesn't. She scowled at the thought. After some thought, part of her wanted to believe he was good. Yesterday had seemed like a dream. The thought that she got to sleep in a comfy bed, and eat gourmet food, it all seems like-

"Melody, for the love of god, could you please do you work instead of day dreaming. Failing you would only make me look bad." Mrs. Howard seemed agitated now. Of course, Melody thought, people only did things for themselves, how egocentric this world truly is.

She mumbled a sorry as the rest of the class gave out a quick laugh. Mrs. Howard shot them all a look, and silence consumed the air. Her classmates didn't hate her, well with the exception of Clarissa, but they all seemed to think she was a freak. Melody looked down at her book and tried again to do the work, but her mind kept floating just as the words and numbers did on her book.
