(Picture to the right is Rick)
Melody froze, hearing the doorbell ring again. Rick growled, turning around. He looked over his shoulder at the frightened child, smiling to himself. He found pleasure in what he did. All his life he'd been the "little one" and he despised it. He had no power growing up, but that all changed because of this one helpless, pathetic little girl. The bell rang again.
"I'm getting it you worthless son of..." He mumbled, trailing off while turning the door knob.
Melody tried getting up, but a pair of feet stopped her, and she looked up into her step-brother's eyes, the hatred clearly visible.
"Who the heck are you?" Rick shouted. Paul turned around, craning his head to see who was at the door.
"I, um, I..." The voice sounded oddly familiar, but Melody knew it couldn't be Alec. Probably some Alec sound alike.
"What do you want?" Rick asked. There was still a gruffness to his voice, but it was the most politest she'd ever heard him speak.
"I, umm..." his voice became faded, and she desperately wanted to know what was going on. Paul seemed interested in what was going on, and left to go to the door. Melody got up despite the pain that wracked my body, and stood behind the wall. I peaked over the edge, shocked to see Alec being cowered by Rick and Paul.

Alec's heart was beating in his chest. He didn't know why he did what he did. As soon as Melody got pulled into the house, he knew something was wrong, and without a second though, he ran up the house, ringing the bell like a mad man. Come to think of it, he probably was a mad man.
But, here he was, standing in front of two scary men, the same ones from earlier, stuttering like a little school girl would in front of her crush, not that he had anything against those girls. He tried to come up with something, anything to get away from the situation, but lying was never his forte (and probably never will). Then, he saw movement behind the younger of the two guys, and saw blond hair. Hair that had to belong to Melody. He'd recognize that hair anywhere. The rich golden color was one that even the really expensive hair dyes couldn't forge. She was hiding behind a wall, but tips of her hair were visible, and her bright blue eyes would occasionally peak out. He saw her eyes widen even more when their eyes locked, and Alec couldn't help but find Melody cute. She reminded him of a lost, scared, new born puppy. She quickly pulled back, becoming hidden behind the wall, and Alec chuckled to himself.
"Listen kid, I have better things to do, so if you don't need anything, go. Away." The older of the two men spat. Alec just stared at them. He had no excuse as to why he started ringing the bell. He just knew Melody was in trouble, and he had to help her. But he wasn't so sure he could do anything now.
"Uh, I think I got the wrong house number..." he trailed off, using the old lame excuse. He caught Melody's eyes, and he hoped his eyes conveyed the apology.
**********
Their eyes locked again, and Melody knew he was going to leave. Her hopes dwindled down, but what was he supposed to do? Say they were friends, and she'd get beatings. And even if she didn't get punished, he would. Rick growled a good-bye and that was Melody's cue to go back to her original spot. She quickly limped (which was no easy job) to where he's left her, and crumpled to the floor. Once he entered to room, he scowled at her, and she could see the exhaustion etched onto his face, making her almost feel sorry for him.
