Peculiarities! The thing that sets your story usually. The amount of possible peculiarities are practically endless! But sometimes people can take it way too far...
Something you do not want to do is make your character totally op. If I see that your character is op I will pretty much just flat out leave the story because I just can't stand that. For example:
Hello my name is Cindy Bleepboop and I am peculiar. I live in Miss. Peregrine's loop, November 49th 2003. I'm very special because I have 4 peculiarities. I can control water. I can see hollowgasts, make people fall in love, and I have beautiful angel wings which allow me to control goodness and badness.
Okay so that was quite obviously an exaggeration but you get the point. Lets point out a few things wrong with that paragraph!
I've very rarely seen this but it has been done. The date. It wasn't off by a lot but I've seen some where the date is off by a few days or a few years. If you're gunna write a MPHFPC fic please know the date!
A second thing is that along with the 4 different peculiarities there is one that I will not accept. To date, Jacob Portman is the only known living peculiar who can see the hollows. And obviously before him Abraham Portman. I don't like it when an OC can see hollows because that completely takes all attention away from Jacob (which usually happens but this will be in a later chapter)
Having one peculiarity is all your character needs so please stop giving them 50! I feel like more people want to read about a regular peculiar with an interesting plot, more than an op peculiar who has to kill everything themselves and is always the hero.
Am I right?
So next time you make a peculiar character, ask yourself:
Are their abilities realistic for this scenario?
