Characters are what will make or break your book. If the character is disliked than it usually doesn't matter if the plot is good or not. And I've tended to see that 'Mary Sues' or in other words, perfect characters are disliked very much!

Okay so for once in my life I'll give a serious example after these short messages!

If you make a perfect beautiful character and have them say how beautiful they are them five seconds later say how ugly they are and how unpopular they are then people will probably hate your character even more.

Okay let's go to the example.

Hi my name is Sierra Smith. I like to sing and dance. Even though I'm horrible at both I'm on the competition dance team and I'm in honors chorus! I have long, wavy, blonde hair and crystal blue eyes. I'm average height and have curves that any girl would die for. But I'm so ugly! All the boys hate me and no one would ever want to date me!

I've actually seen a book start off like that and I wanted to drink some pumpkin spice bleach tbh

Yes a lot of absolutely gorgeous girls are very insecure about themselves but introducing a character in that specific way is just stupid.

Make your character realistic! Not everyone is blonde. Not everyone has crystal blue eyes!

Have different body types. Not everyone is perfectly curvy. Some people are chunkier and some are quite skinny! All body types are beautiful and it's horrible when books basically say that the perfectly curvy girls can be popular and be loved by a guy. Like that's not realistic and it's horrible.

We've already talked about not making your character op with peculiarities so remember that.

Also I think it's a good note to not make all the boys stare at your character as they walk down the stairs or something! Like no! I mean it's okay to have the love interest stare but that's really it.

Let's say Millard is the love interest.

Yeah Millard would probably stare

Jacob is a faithful lil bby so he would be looking at Emma

Horace is obviously gay af

Enoch wouldn't give a fuck

Hugh is also a faithful bean and would be staring at his one true love Fiona (no let's not talk about said incident please)

So just remember those things, yeah? Thanks for your time, loves!
