Everywhere

I decided to go grocery shopping for the week, so I got in my car and drove to Harmon's. I was strolling down the cereal aisle when I saw him.

He was looking at the price for a Lucky Charms box when he looked up at me and smiled. I smiled back.

That's weird. I thought. I pushed my cart past the aisle and went to the dairy section. I saw him again in the checkout line, but we didn't make eye contact this time.

As I pulled out of the parking lot, I spied him getting in his Hyundai and putting on some sunglasses.

When I got home and started unpacking the groceries, I thought about how coincidental it was that this guy shopped at Harmon's the same day I did. Was he always there, and I never really noticed? I tried to think nothing of it.

He was everywhere. When I went shopping, I'd see him lurking around the men's section in American Eagle. When I'd go to the park for a walk, he'd be playing futball with some friends. It couldn't be coincidental.

That Monday as I went into second period science, there was excitement in the room.

A girl named Autumn leaned over to me.

"Have you heard?"

"About what?" I asked.

"There's a new kid! I sure hope he's cute!"

I shrugged it off. No attractive people came to MY school.

As the bell rang and students struggled to their seats, Mr. Gatsby stood up.

"Class I have an announcement," he boomed. The room went silent.

"We have a new student joining us today from Mullingar."

In Ireland. I remembered.

"Class, please welcome Niall," he turned towards the door, as well as every pair of eyes in the classroom.

I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw him.

Because it was HIM.
