Lacey's POV
"So, if two to the power of two is four, then what is three to the power of two?" My mathematics teacher M.Cochrane blabbed on and on. "Lacey! What is the answer to this equation?"
I sat up to read the chalkboard at the front of the class. "The answer is simple, nine. Everyone should know that."
"Okay Lacey, no need to be rude. How can you explain it to your fellow classmates that don't understand it as well as you do?" M.Cochrane said hovering his hand over the class. I knew just who he was talking about. Sam Pottorff. We all knew that he always failed his classes, math especially. All he cared about was girls, football, and partying 24/7. I took a deep breath and thought the easy process through my head.
"This is grade eight math. You multiply the base number by itself to find it. You multiply the number 3 two times. It would be three times three which equals nine." I explained. M.Cochrane smiled at me and nodded his head.
"Great! Does everyone understand?" He asked but nobody said a word. "Well, let's move on to the next question shall we?"
About five minutes later, I felt a pair of warm fingers tap my shoulder. I slowly turned around to see Sam sitting behind me.
"Hey, meet me after class. I need to ask you a favour." He said.
"O-Okay." I stuttered my words and slowly turned around in my chair. Class continued on and the end of class could not have come any sooner. I zipped up my binder and dragged my feet out the door.
"Hey, I told you to wait for me." A voice from behind me said. I whipped my head around and there stood Sam looking as hot as ever. He was wearing an old Def Leopard shirt, black jeans, and his red football jacket from last year. He stood there, hands in his pockets, looking like a model.
"Ahem, stop checking me out. I asked you a question." Sam said in a duh tone.
"Um, sorry, what did you ask?" I asked for clarification as we started walking over to our lockers. I quickly took a glance behind me and saw Steph and Kins taking pictures of us. I mentally rolled my eyes as we arrived at our lockers.
"I was wondering if you could tutor me. You seem like the kind of nerd that's smart and would love to share their passion of school with someone like me." Sam emphasized with his hands.
"What makes you think that I'll tutor you being that you just called me a nerd." I snapped swinging my locker door open. I shoved my binder and math textbook into the skinny compartment.
"Fine, you're a sassy nerd. Feel better?" He changed his definition of me.
"No. You still called me a nerd." I said pointing out the obvious. He just can't get it through his thick skull. I pushed everything in my locker and quickly shut it before everything came pouring out.
"Fine. You are a hot, sexy chick that I'd like to sleep with." Sam said hoping for redemption. He lifted his eyebrows expecting a response.
"That still is unacceptable because I know you are just saying that and you don't mean it." I stated leaning against my locker empty handed.
"Okay. I surrender. I give up. What will it take to get you to tutor me?" He put his hands up in surrender.
"Wow! Am I actually witnessing this?" I sarcastically said. Sam gave me a confused look. "Sam Pottorff actually wants to improve his grades?"
"Yes. Now give me your number so I can text you when I have a question." He said handing me his black iPhone 7. I picked it out of his hands, our fingers just touching. I hesitated to put in my name and phone number. I handed the expensive phone back to him and exhaled the breath I didn't know I was holding in.
