"Never seen that before," a woman's voice said, her tone was curious but strange at the same time.
Never seen what?
"Blood red hair and eyes... Yeah, that's new," it was Jace's voice, the harsh tones with the deep clips of anger lacing the words.
Oh, they're talking about me.
"Think it's his mutation?" Valkyrie's voice, he had the sweeter voice though when he was angry it tended to get a little high.
"Probably," that one was definitely Ryker's. It was deep, rumbling like thunder with an edge to it that sent chills down my spine. He sounded so dangerous, so pissed off and ready to kill. The sound scared me, I still wasn't sure reaching out to him had been a good idea.
"He's awake," the woman said, her fingers briefly brushing my cheek and tapping lightly to make me flinch.
I grimaced as I opened my eyes, my eavesdropping ruined. It was bright in the room, flooding my gaze so that I squinted before I could see properly. As I looked around to take in the room I'd been brought to, I noted that everything was a dull brown color. I was laid up on a large bed with dark sheets drawn up over my body. My gaze turned from the room itself to those that were inside of it. It was the first time I had seen the men clearly.
The one with mismatched eyes caught my attention and I stared at him for a long while. He blushed a little, arching an eyebrow at me as I watched him without saying anything. The boy looked between everyone else as if he wasn't sure what to do. I moved my gaze from him to the others. One stood against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest. He had dark skin and hair. Another stood next to the one with multi-colored eyes. He was tall with caramel colored hair. Next to him looking rather irritated with the situation was another with bright green eyes and messy blond hair.
However, I wasn't interested in any of them. I was a little interested in Ryker who was next to me, leaning on his knees and watching my every move like a hawk. Still, I couldn't bring myself to say anything to him, or speak at all. Movement to my left caught my attention briefly and I turned to see the woman who had been talking. As I set my eyes on her, though, the only thing I saw was the white coat. That white coat had my heart in my throat. Instantly, I hated her. I didn't want to be near her! I wanted her to go away!
So I screamed and bolted.
I made it to the end of the bed, ready to throw myself off of it until a pair of arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me back. I thrashed violently, kicking and screaming. Tears started running down my face as I tried desperately to get away from who ever held me. I didn't want to be next to her! She was one of them! How could they have taken me to one of them!? Why!? What did they want!?
My chest heaved as I started hyperventilating. The arms that held me struggled to keep me still until finally, I was turned around completely and crushed against the one who had grabbed me. Ryker's deep voice shook my body as he spoke to the woman in dark tones.
"You should leave."
"But I haven't gotten his medicine yet-"
I screamed again and pulled my hands up against Ryker's chest. I shoved, trying to get free of him but he wouldn't relent. Shaking my head, I cried hard as I trembled, "No! No! Get away from me!"
The first words I'd spoken in days came out in strangled screams much like I always did in the large white room filled with scientists that only wanted to drug me and hurt me. I didn't want it to happen again. I refused to let it happen again! My eyes searched the room for something, anything to end the nightmare that I was so tired of living. I scratched and clawed at Ryker, screaming at him to let me go.
